KK Chat - Sept. 2, 2001, pt. 1

Session Start: Sun Sep 02 2001

[16:04] *** KK has joined #Deryni_Destinations
[16:04] *** ChanServ sets mode: +o KK
[16:04] <Shiral> Hello, KK
[16:04] <Bynw> Hiyas Katherine
[16:04] <Jessie> hello Katherine
[16:05] <KK> Hi, there.  Not many folk here today.
[16:05] <Shiral> I'll bet some more folks will be dropping in, but I was surprised, too.
[16:05] <KK> Probably because it's Labor Day Weekend for you guys.
[16:05] <Tika> howdy KK :)
[16:05] <Shiral> Could be
[16:05] <KK> Hi, Tika.
[16:06] <Shiral> Have you had a good writing week, Katherine?
[16:06] <KK> So, what's up this evening?
[16:06] <KK> Yes!
[16:06] <Tika> woo hoo!
[16:06] <Shiral> Excellent!!
[16:06] <KK> Got a solid chapter drafted re Alyce and Marie.
[16:06] * Bynw has spent some of the weekend at Dragon*Con and will be going back again later
[16:06] <Bynw> cool
[16:06] <Shiral> Oh wonderful
[16:06] <KK> It's the one where they learn that their father has been killed in Meara; Donal has to tell them.
[16:07] <KK> Ah, how're the Dragons this year?
[16:07] <Shiral> I hope he brought them some kleenex, or the medieval equivalent. =o)
[16:07] <Bynw> there are many of them... very crowed
[16:07] <KK> No, but he's got Jessamy and Richeldis there to back him up.
[16:08] <KK> And we see all the royal children to date, building a castle out of wooden blocks.
[16:08] <Shiral> Neat, so what
[16:08] <Shiral> s the child count so far?
[16:08] <KK> Four true-born, plus Krispin.
[16:09] <Jessie> dies Richeldis know the truth about Krispin?
[16:09] <KK> Actually, three true-born; Richeldis is six months gone with Nigel.
[16:09] <Shiral> Jasta will be pleased to hear this <G>
[16:09] <Jessie> does -- not dies
[16:09] <KK> No, she doesn't know.
[16:10] <KK> Alyce and Marie then go to Castle Cynfyn for their father's burial.  The body is brought back from Meara, sealed in lead.
[16:10] <Shiral> So, what is Jessamy and Donal's relationship post-Krispin? A friendship based upon business, perhaps
[16:10] <Jessie> why is the body sealed in lead?
[16:10] <KK> Oh, yes.  It was a business arrangement from the beginning. Very efficient.
[16:11] <KK> Bodies get stinky after they've been dead a few days.  The were sealed in lead to keep the stinky in.
[16:11] <Shiral> Jessamy and Richeldis sound as if they have at least a nodding acquaintance, too
[16:11] <KK> There are some appalling accounts of lead coffins splitting open and nasty fluids leaking out.
[16:11] <Bynw> no healers with preservation spells ...
[16:11] <Shiral> Oooo, does make one think kindly about cremation
[16:12] <KK> Jessamy and RIcheldis are close friends.  Jessamy took the new young queen directly under her wing when she came to court.
[16:12] <Jessie> did Deryni ever practice cremation?
[16:12] <Jessie> except out of necessity?
[16:12] <KK> Jessamy's oldest caughter is close to the queen's age.
[16:12] <Shiral> I'm looking forward to meeting Jessamy -- she sounds like a VERY interesting woman, Katherine
[16:12] <KK> Yes, they would have done, in certain cases.
[16:12] <Jessie> such as
[16:13] <KK> She is, indeed.
[16:13] *** hygilac has joined #Deryni_Destinations
[16:13] <Shiral> Hello, Linda
[16:13] <Jessie> hello hygilac
[16:13] <Bynw> hiyas linda
[16:13] <Jessie> Katherine:  a question from Vaino (the gentleman from Finland) -- how canonical are the DA Zines.  He was wondering because in one of the early editions it says that the tower that currently houses Kelson's library was constructed in 1100 -- which would mean that the portal wasn't the one Javan had constructed
[16:13] <Tika> hi hy (again) :)
[16:13] <KK> I'm really having fun beginning to layer in familiar characters as younger people.  Hi, Linda.
[16:13] <Shiral> I'm sure We'll have fun reading about them, too!
[16:14] <Shiral> So Brion would be about six, now?
[16:14] <hygilac> hi all
[16:14] <hygilac> Hi KK
[16:14] <KK> I'd say the DA magazine contents aren't canonical for the most part.
[16:14] *** Sedina has joined #Deryni_Destinations
[16:14] <Jessie> hello Sedina
[16:14] <Shiral> Hello Sedina!
[16:15] <Sedina> Hey everyone!
[16:15] <Sedina> Told you I'd be here, Jessie.  *giggles*
[16:15] <Shiral> We're having a very intimate chat, today
[16:15] <hygilac> that's okay
[16:15] <hygilac> who has the tea?
[16:15] <Jessie> so the tower was constructed prior to 1100 -- and the portal is the one Javan had constructed?
[16:15] * Shiral passes out the shortbread and checks on the tea
[16:15] <KK> He's four or five.  Krispin is 3, Blaine Emanuel is about 2, Xenia is 14 months.
[16:15] <Sedina> intimate chat...so I see.  Rather quiet in here for a Sunday afternoon
[16:15] * hygilac passes the teacakes
[16:15] <Sedina> Hi Katherine!
[16:15] <KK> Hi, Sedina.
[16:16] <KK> Yes, the tower is earlier than 1100.
[16:16] <hygilac> lots of people off holidaying
[16:16] <Shiral> Lots of little kids, I'll bet that castle will get knocked over more than once
[16:16] *** Mike has joined #Deryni_Destinations
[16:16] <KK> Oh, yes.
[16:16] <hygilac> Laura and family are off at EuroDisney
[16:16] <Sedina> Hi Mike...
[16:16] <KK> And they didn't have interlocking Lego blocks.
[16:16] * Shiral starts pouring out the tea
[16:16] <Jessie> Scribbler also asked me to ask a question for her:  in Kelson's time at what age was it normal to enter one of the religious orders?
[16:17] <KK> I think they could have taken preliminary vows at 14, since that was the normal age of adulthood.
[16:17] <KK> For knighthood, though, 18.  And for the few Deryni allowed to inherit titles, 25.
[16:17] <Mike> Hi folks!  Its a small crowd on this holiday weekend....
[16:17] <Jessie> but that was not true of the Michaeliens?
[16:18] <Shiral> Hi Mike
[16:18] <hygilac> HI Mike
[16:18] <Jessie> hello Mike
[16:18] <KK> The crowd is getting bigger, though. It's doubled since I arrived.
[16:18] * Shiral starts teacups floating through the chatroom, with the milk jug and sugar bowl floating after them
[16:18] <Sedina> Just a little bit of a slow start this weekend, tis all. :o)
[16:18] <KK> What was not true, Jessie?
[16:18] *** Gamgee has joined #Deryni_Destinations
[16:19] <hygilac> Hi Sam
[16:19] <KK> Sam!  :-)
[16:19] <Jessie> the age of 14
[16:19] <Gamgee> hello all
[16:19] <Jessie> hello Gamgee
[16:19] <Sedina> Hey Sam!
[16:19] <Mike> Hi sam
[16:19] <hygilac> You were here earlier than sometimes, Katherine
[16:19] <Shiral> Scribbler also wanted to know -- were there other seminaries that a priestly candidate could attend than Arx Fidei?
[16:19] <Tika> wb Gamgee
[16:19] <Shiral> Hi Sam!
[16:19] <Jessie> last week-end you indicated that one had to be 18 before one could enter with preliminary vows to the Michaelines
[16:19] <KK> Fourteen-year-olds would only have been allowed to make temporary postulant vows in any order.
[16:19] <Shiral> In Kelson's time, that is
[16:19] <hygilac> There was the one at Grecotha that Duncan went to
[16:20] <KK> Going to university didn't necessitate taking religious vows.
[16:20] <Jessie> what order does Duncan belong to?
[16:20] <Mike> How is Susan's mom doing? I haven't seen her here or at the newsgroup.
[16:20] <Shiral> She's getting better, Mike
[16:20] <KK> And most orders, esp. if they had a school attached, would have admitted students who weren't under vows.
[16:20] <Mike> Thats good.
[16:21] <Shiral> Looks like she won't have to have a spinal tap, and recent tests came back with good (meaning normal) results
[16:21] <hygilac> that is good
[16:21] <Mike> great!
[16:21] <Bynw> very good
[16:21] <Shiral> Yes, poor Helene has had quite a year
[16:21] <KK> I don't know that I've specified what order.  He might simply have been a regular priest, not part of an order.  There's a name for that that escapes me just now.
[16:22] <Shiral> Susan herself is getting ready for the start of the school year
[16:22] <hygilac> they hven't begun yet?
[16:22] <Shiral> No, I don't remember that Duncan was ever a member of a specific Order
[16:22] <hygilac> they usually start the end of August
[16:22] <Mike> I thought to be a priest you had to be part of an order.....
[16:22] <Shiral> I think they begin on the fourth, Linda
[16:22] <Bynw> some schools don't start until after the labor day weekend
[16:22] <Shiral> How about "ordinary priest?"
[16:22] <hygilac> that is later than last year; I remember they started in August
[16:23] <KK> No, promising students could simply be sent to seminary by their local bishop.
[16:23] <Shiral> I'll bet Duncan was a promising student
[16:23] <KK> Quite.
[16:23] <Shiral> Didn't hurt to be a Duke's son, either
[16:23] <KK> Not at all.
[16:23] <hygilac> He was very interested in continuing until he met Maryse
[16:23] <Mike> Itinerant?
[16:24] <KK> Itinerant simply means wandering.
[16:24] <Mike> I see.
[16:24] *** the_Bee has joined #Deryni_Destinations
[16:24] <hygilac> hi bee
[16:24] <Jessie> hello the_Bee
[16:24] <Shiral> LIke Bishops without a fixed See
[16:24] <Shiral> Hello Bee
[16:24] <the_Bee> Hi all
[16:24] <Sedina> Hi Bee!!
[16:24] <Mike> How ya be....Bee?
[16:24] <KK> An itinerant bishop simply had no fixed see.  They were essentially auxilliary bishops.
[16:24] <KK> Hi, Bee.
[16:24] <Mike> Oh, okay.
[16:24] <Shiral> With their bags packed
[16:24] <Shiral> =o)
[16:25] <the_Bee> They went where theywere needed?
[16:25] <KK> Yes.
[16:25] <hygilac> mostly to the truble spots, it seems
[16:25] <KK> Or sometimes they'd be assigned responsibility for a specific function, like overseeing schools, or administering hospices or other charities, or inspecting religious houses.
[16:25] <hygilac> like Bishop Istelyn going to Kelson
[16:25] <hygilac> s camp
[16:26] <KK> Yes.
[16:26] <Shiral> I'll bet the Bishops of Meara, fixed See or not, lead interesting lives
[16:26] <Jessie> so were they multiple religious houses in Kelson's time?
[16:26] <KK> Well, they've got the job of keeping potential revolutionaries in line, in addition to everything else.
[16:26] <KK> Yes.
[16:27] *** Debbie-vb has joined #Deryni_Destinations
[16:27] <Jessie> hello DeryniBot
[16:27] <hygilac> hi Debbie vb
[16:27] <Shiral> Is Cinhil's order, The Ordo Verbi Dei still in existence in Kelson's time?
[16:27] <Sedina> Hi Debbie
[16:27] <Jessie> Bynw:  let DeryniBot talk to us
[16:27] <Debbie-vb> Good afternoon all
[16:27] <Shiral> Hello, Debbie VB
[16:27] <Mike> Hi Debbie *waves*
[16:27] <Jessie> hello Debbie-vb
[16:27] <the_Bee> Hi Debbie
[16:27] <KK> Hi, Debbie.
[16:27] <DeryniBot> Hi
[16:27] <Jessie> ;-)
[16:27] <Jessie> thanks
[16:27] <KK> Yes, I suspect the OVD is still around.
[16:27] <Shiral> Good, I liked them
[16:28] <hygilac> maybe even Cinhil's old monastery?
[16:28] <KK> Quite possibly.
[16:28] <KK> They weren't high profile--which is probably why Cinhil went there in the first place.
[16:28] <Shiral> The Haldanes may have looked kindly on the OVD, since one of their family was once a member
[16:29] <KK> The royals have always supported the monasteries.
[16:29] <hygilac> yeah, if the REgents didn't get them
[16:29] <Gamgee> oh oh......  sounds like hygilac is working on a story idea.....
[16:29] <KK> Donal has a daughter in a convent.
[16:29] <Jessie> and they had their quantity of land given to then by the Furstan/Festils cause some of their family joined the order also
[16:29] <Debbie-vb> Maybe Imrew should have
[16:29] <KK> It was common practice for kings and queens to endow religious houses.
[16:30] <KK> Don't think it would have helped Imre.
[16:30] <hygilac> Ariella, then?
[16:30] * Shiral tries to see Imre in a monk's robe and gives up -- laughing too hard
[16:30] <Shiral> The walls would have collapsed on Ariella
[16:30] <KK> Ariella a nun.  Right.....
[16:30] <Tika> ahem...NOT!
[16:30] <hygilac> she could have scandalized a convent or two
[16:30] * Debbie-vb could see ariella working through the monestary
[16:30] <Tika> :)
[16:30] <Sedina> LOL
[16:31] <hygilac> Debbie, how you talk!
[16:31] <hygilac> LOL
[16:31] <Debbie-vb> I know, me bad
[16:31] <Shiral> Some people simply DO NOT have a vocation to the religious life!!
[16:31] * Sedina pictures the monas
[16:31] <KK> Nope, can't see Arialla in a nun's habit.
[16:31] <Sedina> err...sorry.  Sadie was helping me type that
[16:31] <hygilac> HiSadie cat
[16:31] <Shiral> Cats are terrible typists
[16:32] <KK> True.
[16:32] <Debbie-vb> Your kitties ever help you write Katherine?
[16:32] <KK> BTW, Melissa, Edgar still adores that batty toy you send  him.
[16:32] <hygilac> both of mine are piled up on beds or sofas someplace
[16:32] <Shiral> Good!
[16:32] <Bynw> no cats are good typists ... to other cats .... they have a secret code ....
[16:32] <Sedina> Well...better that she helps me type than sits in front of my monitor.  *lol*
[16:32] <KK> Works out with it every morning, both paws.
[16:32] <Shiral> It's important for everyone to keep fit. <G>
[16:33] <the_Bee> beats having fits
[16:33] <KK> It's really funny.  He's so concentrated when he's doing it. Best cat toy we ever had.  Even better than Vet the Victim.
[16:33] <hygilac> That must be why Sally comes leaping onto my bed every morning before the alarm goes off; kittly gymnastics
[16:33] <Shiral> I had a question which of course I can't remember right
now....
[16:33] <Tika> Vet the Victim?!?!
[16:33] <Bynw> that sounds like an interesting toy
[16:33] <Mike> Will we ever hear any more about Michon de Courcy? I just finished a re-read of KKB and he sounds like he was highly loved and revered.
[16:33] <Sedina> What I was trying to say before Sadie helped me with the typing was that I could foresee a monestary being burned to the ground due to lightning strikes if Ariella were a nun there
[16:33] <Shiral> Catnip stuffed, I'll bet
[16:33] <KK> Vet the Victim is a floppy soft doll made to look like vet, with catnip inside.
[16:34] <Tika> LOL
[16:34] <hygilac> LOL
[16:34] <KK> When we got our first one, Hero, our former black and white tuxedo cat of blessed memory, promptly rabbit kicked him to death; gutted him.
[16:34] <Shiral> I don't especially see Ariella going to Mass all that regularly
[16:34] <hygilac> I need one for Sally
[16:34] <Bynw> hehehehehe
[16:34] <hygilac> she has been known to terrorize the vets on occasion
[16:35] <Sedina> catnip...aka kitty marijuana
[16:35] <KK> There are several others in that series, but Vet the Victim is best.  Made by a company called Kittyhoots.
[16:35] <Jessie> would you buy your kids drugs?
[16:35] <Shiral> Yes, I've seen those <G>
[16:35] <Shiral> My cats had great fun with the catnip stuffed Newt Gingrich
[16:35] <Sedina> LOL Shiral
[16:35] <hygilac> I do buy my kids drugs
[16:35] <the_Bee> Did you read about catnip being good for arthritis or something like that?
[16:35] <KK> Nope, but I give the kitties things with catnip.
[16:35] <Shiral> More than once!
[16:35] <Debbie-vb> Best use I'v ever heard for ole Newt
[16:36] <KK> Yep, Newt, and the mean little kid, and the jogging Bill
Clinton, and the nasty dog....
[16:36] <Mike> Will we ever hear any more about Michon de Courcy? I just finished a re-read of KKB and he sounds like he was highly loved and revered.
[16:36] <Shiral> And the trout!
[16:36] <Sedina> My cats don't really like catnip...or at least Miss Myah
doesn't.  Don't know about Sadie belle
[16:36] <Shiral> ooh, good question, Mike
[16:36] <KK> Michon is a prime mover and shaker in the current book.
[16:36] <hygilac> One of Rebecca's cats climbed inside my purse to see if the catnip was still there; she could smell it
[16:37] * Shiral lies on the floor and rolls around happily to know we'll get to see more of Michon
[16:37] <Mike> Great!
[16:37] <hygilac> yay!
[16:37] * Debbie-vb tosses Shiral a catnip mousie
[16:37] <Bynw> LOL
[16:37] <Sedina> LOL Debbie
[16:37] * Shiral bats the mousie around and gnaws on it
[16:38] <the_Bee> giggle
[16:38] <hygilac> and drools
[16:38] <Shiral> Hmmm, rather tough, and it doesn't seem to do as much for me as it does for Izzy....
[16:38] * Sedina scratches Shiral's chin and behind her ears
[16:38] <KK> Jessicat has been leaving us mouse guts most mornings now.
[16:39] <Shiral> There's also mention of someone named Lorant of Truvorsk who taught Matyas....Will we see him?
[16:39] * Shiral leans against Sedina and purrs
[16:39] <KK> Hold on.  I hear a cat growling at a dog.
[16:39] <hygilac> oh oh
[16:39] <Sedina> Aww...what a nice present for you, Katherine.  I just hope that you don't find the "presents" by stepping in them
[16:39] <Debbie-vb> well at least it was not a bat like one of our cats brought in
[16:40] <the_Bee> Live?
[16:40] <KK> It was Jessicat wanting in, and being faced off by a black dog.
[16:40] <hygilac> yes, that is a particularly unpleasant sensation
[16:40] <Gamgee> silly dog.....  it wouldn't have had a chance.....
[16:40] <Mike> Who won? Jessicat?
[16:40] * Sedina giggles at Sam
[16:40] <KK> Our Sophie cat used to bring in live bats and release them in the great hall.
[16:40] * Bynw had a cat that didnt catch anything unless if flew .. mostly birds and bats ... always brought them in still alive as presents to us
[16:40] <hygilac> sounds like my two facing down the outside cat at the back door
[16:41] <Debbie-vb> Cats always win, unless they don't want to
[16:41] <the_Bee> that must have been fun!
[16:41] <KK> Jessicat is fearless.  The dogs haven't figured her out.
[16:41] <Shiral> So do the present royal children have any pets, KK?
[16:41] <hygilac> silly dogs
[16:41] <KK> Brion might.  But they're all still pretty young.
[16:41] <hygilac> we have been speculating that Alaric may be a cat person
[16:41] <Sedina> Jessiecat sounds a lot like a kitty I used to have as a kid.  Shadow used to have our dogs running for the hills.
[16:41] <Debbie-vb> I see the Haldanes as doggy people
[16:42] <Shiral> Especially when they wag their tails?
[16:42] <KK> I think they mostly are.
[16:42] <hygilac> My Daisy did the same
[16:42] <hygilac> seven pounds of fur and steel
[16:42] <the_Bee> Yes.  royalty expects to be obeyed.
[16:42] <Shiral> They have a lot of hunting packs, anyway
[16:43] <Sedina> Shadow was the sweetest cat, looked like dreck, but sweet as all get out.  But boy, she terrified our dogs.  *giggles*
[16:43] <the_Bee> did many people keep animals as pets back then?
[16:43] <Jessie> are the 3 childe morgan books scheduled to come out a year apart?
[16:43] *** Maele has joined #Deryni_Destinations
[16:43] <Shiral> Hello Maele
[16:43] <hygilac> Maele!
[16:43] <the_Bee> Hi Maele
[16:43] * Sedina thinks that Jessie is being really hopeful...although it would be very nice if that happened
[16:43] <KK> For the most part, I think pets were expected to be working animals of some sort.  Food had to be earned.
[16:44] <Sedina> Maele!
[16:44] <Maele> Hi Folks!
[16:44] <Jessie> hello Maele
[16:44] <Shiral> Cats as mousers, dogs as hunters and watchdogs, I'll bet
[16:44] <the_Bee> even the cats in Catalyst were expected to catch mice.
[16:44] <hygilac> and ratters
[16:44] <Shiral> Absolutely
[16:44] <KK> Yep.  Important and rich ladies could afford to have pets that didn't earn their keep.
[16:44] <Shiral>  ANd as sheep and cattle herders
[16:44] <Gamgee> don't forget dogs were also trained for war.
[16:45] <KK> Yep.
[16:45] <KK> Cheetahs, too.
[16:45] <Maele> Hmmm, "Hi!" Bynw, KK, Shiral, Tika, Debbie, Gam, Hy, Jessie, Mike, Sedina, and the Bee!
[16:45] <hygilac> that cat of Rasoul's was no house pet
[16:45] * Sedina giggles at Maele
[16:45] <Tika> they probably didn't have names like "Fido" when they were trained for war ;)
[16:45] <KK> No, indeed.
[16:45] <Maele> Butch!
[16:45] <Tika> Killer!
[16:45] <hygilac> Brutus
[16:46] <hygilac> and Bear, of course
[16:46] <Bynw> Rasoul's kitty was just a big hearth kitten ... ask Dugal
[16:46] <KK> I had a cat named Bear.
[16:46] <Maele> Katherine, I forwarded some of those Templar-associated hymns this past week by e-mail, did you receive them?
[16:46] <the_Bee> your lap cat?
[16:46] <Shiral> Well, yes, a REALLY big hearth cat, Bynw <G>
[16:46] <KK> Yes!  Thank you!  I hadn't gotten around to responding.  Mea culpa.
[16:46] <Gamgee> Tika: why not?  the first leson of training a guard dog is "don't name it something that the enemy could guess".  Would you ever guess a war/guard dog's name to be Fido?
[16:47] <hygilac> Bear was a German shepherd of my acquaintance; he used a section of 4 x4 post for a fetch toy
[16:47] <Maele> <-- had a dog named "Horse!"
[16:47] <Sedina> LOL Maele
[16:47] <Bynw> LOL Sam
[16:47] <Tika> hehehe Sam, prolly not ;)
[16:47] <KK> Good point, Sam.
[16:47] <Bynw> get him FLUFFY!
[16:48] <Shiral> LOL!!
[16:48] <Maele> Hope you find something interesting in them, KK.  Let me know if you'd like to see any others.
[16:48] <hygilac> there you go
[16:48] <Sedina> LMAO
[16:48] <KK> Will do, Maele.
[16:48] <Gamgee>  (actually that's exactly why guard dogs are not named Fido, Spot, Rover, etc.)
[16:49] <Jessie> Is there a tentative schedule for the release for all  3 of the childe morgan books?
[16:49] <Mike> GOOD QUESTION!
[16:49] <Maele> <--- names most things "Hey!  You!  Yes, I'm talking to you!"
[16:49] <KK> A friend of ours in Scotland has German shepherd guard dogs--lots of them--and names each generation with names starting with the same letter for that generation.
[16:49] <hygilac> I have a dog named Sugar who will bite anyone who doesn't sit down quickly
[16:49] <KK> Ace would like them a year apart, Jessie, but it ain't gonna happen.
[16:50] * Shiral sits down quickly, just to make sure
[16:50] * Sedina says that her dad actually named a puppy "Dink" once
because that's what he tended to call him anyway
[16:50] <Mike> When is CM the first due out?
[16:50] * Bynw still wants "The Green Tower" :-)
[16:50] <hygilac> patience, Bynw
[16:50] <KK> One has to be careful not to name a puppy or kitten with a baby name.  They do grow up, after all.
[16:50] <Shiral> I want it too, Bynw...<G>
[16:51] <hygilac> patience, Shira;
[16:51] <Maele> <--- Maele waves that "Time Compression Powder" about.
[16:51] <Bynw> how long will learning patience take?
[16:51] <KK> Depends on when I finish it, but hopefully by the end of next year.
[16:51] <Shiral> But I don't WANNA be patient, Linda!! <G>
[16:51] <Tika> longer than the story you want sweetie ;)
[16:51] <hygilac> I want patience--right NOW!!
[16:51] <KK> I will probably take pity on those of you attending Darkover, and read the Green Tower story there.
[16:51] <Shiral> Lord give make me patient, and hurry up about it, too!!
[16:52] <Gamgee> ok.....  It has to be done by someone..........
[16:52] <Shiral> OOOO!!!!!!!!!!
[16:52] <Jessie> book 1 won't be done until the end of 2002 -- when will it be published
[16:52] *** Temprus has joined #Deryni_Destinations
[16:52] <Mike> COOL!  Codex the beginning of '02 and CM and the end of '02... its gonna be a GOOD year!
[16:52] <Sedina> My family's problem with naming puppies and kitties was that we always had so many since we used to breed dogs.  After a while, it got to be a little difficult to come up with names for all the puppies
[16:52] <the_Bee> Hi Temprus
[16:52] <KK> No, no, OUT by the end of 2002.
[16:52] * Gamgee gives Bynw a "Boot to the Head" (tm and all that)
[16:52] <Temprus> Hello
[16:52] * Maele waves to Temprus....
[16:52] <Shiral> Hi Temprus
[16:52] <Tika> I was waiting for that Gamgee ;)
[16:52] <Debbie-vb> AAAAAAAAAAAAARGH!!!!!!!!!!! and I'm not going to be able to make darkover this year, too much else happening
[16:52] <hygilac> hi Temprus
[16:52] <Bynw> ROFLMAO ... I was wondering if someone would get the reference
[16:52] <Sedina> Hi Temprus
[16:53] <Mike> awwwww
[16:53] * Gamgee tried not to.....
[16:53] <KK> Sam is feeling his oats today.  :-)
[16:53] <Tika> must.... resist...  ;)
[16:53] * Shiral will be at Darkover whether or not the lord is willing and even if the creek DOES rise
[16:53] <Tika> now we know that Gamgee CAN be cracked!
[16:53] <KK> Well, of course.  There are these nuptials to celebrate....
[16:53] * Bynw and Tika will also be at Darkover come hell or high water ...
[16:53] <Gamgee> Shiral: don't say that.....  Please..... the last time someone said that we had a flood......
[16:53] <Shiral> Of couse!
[16:53] <Sedina> LOL Shiral
[16:54] <KK> I think he may be ticklish, too.  He's very cute.  ;-)
[16:54] <Shiral> Oops, sorry.  How about even if the creek dries up, Sam
[16:54] <Sedina> I would certainly hope that the bride and groom would be at Darkover!
[16:54] * Debbie-vb is now officially depressed
[16:54] <Shiral> We'd have a problem if they weren't, it's true
[16:54] <Gamgee> Tika: Cracked????  I subscribed to that magazine for over 5 years.
[16:54] <Tika> awwww, Debbie we'll tell you about it afterward, promise :)
[16:54] <Shiral> We will, in glowing detail
[16:54] <hygilac> with pictures, even
[16:55] <Shiral> detail
[16:55] <Jessie> so now you what a drought Shiral?
[16:55] <Sedina> Lots of pictures...
[16:55] <Bynw> MAD is better than Cracked ...
[16:55] <Shiral> No, it's all just a figure of speech, Jessie
[16:55] <KK> Was it Bart who was talking about putting it on webcam?
[16:55] <Gamgee> bynw: not when I was subscribing.
[16:55] <Maele> "./~ All I want for Christmas is a few Deryni...!  ./!"
[16:56] <hygilac> probably, since he can't make it either
[16:56] <Bynw> Kelos I think mentioned it
[16:56] <KK> Kelos, yes!
[16:56] <Debbie-vb> BTW,  I finally had the chance to visit that pronounciation site
[16:56] * Sedina giggles at Maele
[16:56] <Shiral> Good, Debbie
[16:56] <KK> Helpful?
[16:56] <hygilac> careful; we'll have Shiral singing next
[16:56] <Debbie-vb> One question agbout it though  I thought Eithne was pronounced enya
[16:56] <KK> Ah, that reminds me.  Important question for you all.
[16:56] * Shiral sits down and is vewwy vewwy quiet....
[16:57] <Tika> KK, I think it was Kelos
[16:57] <Maele> <--- is an alto... could use a decent descant here...?
[16:57] * Bynw can sing... he has all kinds of Lyrics as macros ...
[16:57] * Sedina covers her ears as an ounce of prevention just in case Shiral does start to sing
[16:57] <the_Bee> I thought Iomaire was pronounced "Yo-mare."
[16:57] <KK> I've had the first planning e-mail from Arisia, scheduled for January in Boston.
[16:57] <Debbie-vb> ?me does sing, but I'm bass
[16:57] * Sedina doesn't need to have songs running thru her head. She woke up with Camelot running through her head as it was
[16:58] <KK> They're giving me free rein (or is it reign?  Either makes sense.)  Anyway, they want to know what programming I'd like to do.
[16:58] <KK> So what programming would you like me to do?
[16:58] <hygilac> with real horses or just coconuts, Sedina?
[16:58] <Shiral> I'm sure they'll want a reading, KK
[16:58] * Sedina smacks hygilac with a trout
[16:58] <Maele> This is the gaming-oriented convention, yes?
[16:58] <KK> Yes, and I thougth an interview instead of a GOH speech.
[16:58] <Gamgee> KK: I'm actualy thinking about going to Arisia
[16:58] <KK> I think it's media, but I'n not sure.
[16:59] <Tika> Arisia starts on my birthday so we might actually go as a present ;)
[16:59] <KK> I was also thinking about maybe an ice cream social.
[16:59] <KK> (I'm allowed to have a party.)
[16:59] * Shiral wishes she could make it to Arisia, but....
[16:59] <Gamgee> My birthday falls right in the middle of it.
[16:59] <Sedina> Where is Arisia?
[16:59] <the_Bee> with medieval foods?
[16:59] <Shiral> That sounds like a good idea, KK
[16:59] <KK> Boston.
[16:59] <Tika> ooooo an ice cream social sounds great :)
[16:59] <Debbie-vb> With tiger ice-cream?
[16:59] <hygilac> in the middle of January?
[16:59] <KK> Yeah, ice cream sounds better to me than mediecal food.
[16:59] <the_Bee> my city :)

(to be continued...)
