I've never written fanfic before, and after reading a number of stories here, I thought I might try my had at a short story. But alas, my brain had other ideas, and instead of giving me a nice little story, it gave me this:

Mob boss EARL MARLEY is dead, and the only suspect is his sultry widow RICKI MARLEY. Mayor KELSON BRIONSON wants answers before a mob war tears Rhemuth apart. It's up to detective AL "ERIC" MORGAN of the RPD and his partner SHAWN DERRY to provide those answers. But those answers lead to more questions than they bargained for, and soon federal agent DUNCAN "MAC" LAIN is snooping into their investigation. Soon, the three are caught in the crossfire between the rival Archbishops and the Torenthi mobs, and they'll have to work together just to survive.

But the city is full of people who can't be trusted... or can they? Morgan's own chief of Police, JEHENNA LaFRENCH, is gunning for him; seems she doesn't trust a cop who plays by his own rules. Then there are district attorneys DENNIS ARILAN and TOMÀS CARDIEL? Do they work for the city or are they on someone else's payroll under the table? And what about RHYDON THE SQUEALER? He's provided good info on the Torenthi gang in the past, but he may be betraying both sides. And then there's Ricki Marley, herself. The electric attraction Morgan feels toward her doesn't give him any clue whether she's just a grieving widow or actually the brains behind Earl Marley's entire operation.

Whether you're a long-time fan or brand new, don't miss... CSI: RHEMUTH.

Now is life, and life is always better.

I don't know that that is a fail!  Sounds like an interesting modern AU.   ;D
"If having a soul means being able to feel love, loyalty, and gratitude, then animals are better off than a lot of humans."

James Herriot (James Alfred "Alfie" Wight), when a human client asked him if animals have souls.  (I don't remember in which book the story originally appeared.)

DoctorM

Well, there was a mob film called "Men of Honor" that was "Macbeth" set in Brooklyn and Little Italy. I recall that Banquo became a loan shark called "Bankie Cuomo".

Laurna

Oh very good!  That gave me a good laugh!

"CSI RHEMUTH" is a brilliant idea!

And if you want a little insight into how police might function in 21st C. Rhemuth, maybe check out Evie's Balance of Power story, especially the characters of Patrick, Alicia, and Maureen (as well as assorted less-central characters).

Very creative. Have you read a  lot of Dashiell Hammett or Ross MacDonald? Love your hard boiled story. Very imaginative.

I haven't read them (although I may to if I decide to write this story). I just went with various stereotypes I was familiar with to get the feel of a loose-cannon/buddy movie/noir detective/fight-the-mob story (although let's be honest: the only mob I know anything about is Fat Tony's mob).

This is not a failure at all!  Imagining the regal Richenda as RICKI MARLEY has so many interesting possibilities.  Write on!
