Yes, Alixa has the advantage (if you can call it that, under the circumstances) of seeing the family dynamic both from an outside point of view and also from one that has first-hand experience with growing up in a far less healthy family dynamic, to the point that Soraya's issues seem relatively minor ones to have to deal with.

Now that Nicholas knows about Remy and the court at Joux, I am sure he will take care that Alixa is protected from them and her happiness will be a consideration for him. Have to admit I wish there was a way to heal Cinhil. I know we can't but can't help wishing. You have to be pretty bad to make even Conall look good.

Evie has definitely not lost her skill at depicting villains.

I did try to give y'all a variety to choose from this time around.  ;)

I hope the direction in which my thoughts are tending as to what might happen on the journey back to Gwynedd prove unfounded.

Well, I guess that all depends on what direction your thoughts are tending towards!  ;D  But if you are guessing that the story doesn't end up with them having a smooth and uneventful journey home, followed by them immediately marrying and living happily ever after with no complications, The End, you are indeed correct.

Amazing as usual, Evie.  It appears Catalina has been prepared well for her future role.  And very observant.

Thank you! King Mikhail has done his best to prepare her, as have certain others in her retinue. And what she is unable to observe on her own, she has some very able assistance with.

I'm enjoying this story quite a lot.

Quote from: Evie on July 30, 2024, 07:59:03 AMOh, you'll soon discover that Soraya and Rémy are entirely different. Soraya genuinely loves her family, she just has extremely unhealthy ways of showing it. Rémy... might make you willing to have Prince Conall back as the lesser of two evils.... 😅

I am a little confused. I thought Colin and Catalina would marry in Andelon and then travel to Gwynedd. Have I got this wrong? Either way I hope they get to Gwynedd safely and begin their married life.

Traditionally it appears that medieval royal brides tended to travel to the groom's kingdom to marry, since after all that is where they would someday be Queen (at least if marrying the heir). That is why at the end of this chapter you see her getting ready to go down to the royal barges that will transport her downriver to where seafaring ships are waiting that can bring her and her entourage to her new affianced husband's kingdom, and why she has packed up her furnishings to prepare for the journey.

Think about Kelson and Araxie's wedding. He didn't marry her in Orsal, she moved to Gwynedd to marry him there where his people could witness it.

That makes sense. If the bride is going to marry the heir and eventually become Queen she will be best accepted by the people if they see the wedding and learn something about her. When Brion married Jehana I had the impression the wedding took place in Bremange, but I wasn't clear since the actual ceremony was never described.

You know, I remember Brion going over there to meet and court her, but I can't recall what was said about the actual wedding either. I went with what seemed most typical with our world's royal weddings. However, there is one wedding in this story that will be shown to take place at the bride's home kingdom, but I can't exactly say it's a very typical sort of wedding....  :-\
