I have friends who come from a culture where arranged marriages are the norm. It is expected that parents will choose the partners and from what they tell me these unions often turn out very well. Several of them said their marriages were arranged by their parents and they didn't even meet until shortly before their wedding. Love that grows from friendship and compatability has a better chance of lasting than romantic  liaisons where the two know little about the person they are marrying. So Alixa and Camber would certainly have a better chance than most.
As for Joux, after Reiner and Remy I'm willing to bet a majority of the population will welcome new rule.

It sounds as if Adémar is one of those people who has trouble communicating what he means because his subtext of what he thinks is obvious doesn't line up with that of those around him.

Which is unfortunate in a leader, but it doesn't seem that he's a poor leader - certainly no Cinhil - but a combination of that and the somewhat rather fixed gender roles that seem to be the case among the Forcinn royalty (which Renier and Remy were - I hope - the extreme of) makes him a less than ideal husband for Miranda and overlord to Alixa.

I think I would agree with this assessment. I have a partially finished story about Miranda and the Hort which I hope to get back to eventually, and while I must say I'm not wild about the Hort as a person (though even with the worst of his flaws, he's nowhere nearly as bad as Renier or Rémy!), as a ruler he's not awful. He's not great either, but I would expect he's likely about average. Maybe even slightly better than average, with the potential to do better when he cares to, but an unfortunate tendency to get sidetracked or occasionally overly influenced by people who don't need to be influencing him. He'll likely get a mention in the history books someday, but it won't be a long entry.

Love it.

I'll miss our bi-weekly treat.

Speaking of young people, starting on Monday I'll begin posting the six chapter novella about the first two months of Cinhil and Alixa's marriage and the events surrounding Cinhil's Haldane potential setting. Camber will also have a fairly large role in that story, and of course you'll all have another baddie to hate, so that should be fun.  ;D
Just when we thought we had eliminated the baddies you come up with another one. I assume this is not Renier since he's not new. Ah well, have to keep things interesting.

No, not Renier. If you've read the first chapter of "Strangers in a Strange Land," then you've made her acquaintance already. She's not a baddie on the same level as Renier or Remy, because she hasn't the power to be, but she's definitely not on the side of the angels despite that, unless one is counting the fallen angels!

Madame Dardenay? I can definitely see her as a troublemaker.

You'll probably dislike her even more by this time tomorrow.  ;D

Most excelent Evie, I must say that I regret nothing in taking the time to read Pawns and Queens I have enjoyed the Haldanes very much. The only thing I can ask for more of in another story is more MORGANS  PLEASE!

You'll definitely see more of both Duke Joscelin and his sister Lady Gabrielle in the sequel.
