Hello all,

Just a little history on my relationship on this book, and my history with Katherine's work.  I read most of the Deryni, and Lammas Night back in the late 70s and early 80s.  I remember being deeply affected by the end of Lammas Night, almost sobbing at the ending.  I have often recommended Lammas Night, and have purchased, and given copies several times to friends.

During the intervening years, I've converted from Catholicism to Paganism.  I've been a tarot professional for many years.  I've even read "The Magical Battle for Britain" by Dion Fortune.  I've also come out as a member of the LGBT community.

I recently decided to listen to the audio books, and dove into and enjoyed the Deryni works; I'm currently listening to Lammas Night.  A couple of items have jumped out at me, while going through these works.

First, the lessons of Lammas Night, regarding magical resistance to authoritarianism are just as relevant today.

Secondly, while I understand the Karmic links, of sacrifice, and the sacred king, between Graham and William; I also feel that it's a little LGBT.  Maybe that is my own perspective, but it's how I'm seeing it.

Third, I have to chuckle, that as I was reading about the magical workings whether Lammas or Deryni I realize that I still cast a magical circle the same way 40 years later.
May you have the day that you deserve

I don't think you are alone there. I think a great number of people familiar with the Deryni and who practice magic rites end up doing the same thing.

Hello and welcome JefFred 13.

I would agree with all 3 of your points - though as an Anglican priest I would see the first one through a religious rather than magical lens

I sensed a LGBT vibe between Graham and William and I am a cis woman with generally little interest in anyone's sexuality.

As regards the third point I suspect that genuine ritual of any sort generally changes little in its essence.

I love Lammas night - but then as a Brit who believes in "the divinity that doth hedge a King", I would!
God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.
