[19:23] * KK has joined #deryni_destinations
[19:23] <&DeryniBot>  Gwynedd's Sheriff, Marnin, nods to KK and checks their sword at the door.
[19:23] * DeryniBot sets mode: +o KK
[19:23] <%TheDeryni> KK!
[19:23] <%DesertRose> She picked her costume out of the second movie.
[19:23] <the_Bee> hello KK!
[19:23] <~RainbowDragon> Greetings, KK!
[19:23] <%DesertRose> Hello KK!1
[19:24] <%DesertRose> How was your week, KK?
[19:24] <@KK> Hello, troops.
[19:24] <the_Bee> now watch all the lurkers come to life
[19:24] <@KK> I see we have a sheriff.  Cool!
[19:24] <@KK> Wet.  We got more than 3 inches of rain here in Staunton.  Mind you, I'm not complaining!
[19:24] <the_Bee> how was your week, KK?
[19:25] <%DesertRose> Yeah, Bynw's been playing with the greetings.
[19:25] <the_Bee> Marnin was his mother
[19:25] <%TheDeryni> Poured here in CT too.
[19:25] <%DesertRose> He's asked me to check them for grammar and spelling errors, since I majored in English and I'm good at catching grammar and spelling errors.
[19:25] <@KK> Yers, I know.  She makes a great sheriff!
[19:26] <%TheDeryni> Yes you are, DR
[19:26] * elf returns and waves at KK "Hi!"
[19:26] <@KK> Yes, typos, too, I'll bet.  ;-)
[19:26] <%DesertRose> Yup.  I'm a good beta reader. :D
[19:26] <@KK> Hello, elf.  I've not seen you here before.
[19:26] <the_Bee> I knew you knew, kk.  fyi-ing anyone who didn't
[19:26] <elf> yep new
[19:27] <@KK> Welcome.
[19:27] <elf> thank you
[19:27] <%DesertRose> So how was your week besides rainy, KK?
[19:27] <@KK> What in the world is that abbrev. after Bynw's name?
[19:28] <%DesertRose> We think he skipped an i, for Be Back in a Bit.
[19:28] <the_Bee> be back in a bit?
[19:28] <@KK> It was busy, as usual, filled with piddly little tasks that had to be taken care of.
[19:28] <@KK> Got my flu shot.
[19:28] <@KK> Got my office all but finished.
[19:28] <%DesertRose> That's good news.
[19:28] <%TheDeryni> :)
[19:29] <@KK> Did not get any writing done, but that's coming.
[19:29] <elf> did you move?
[19:29] <@KK> Yep, earlier this year.  Still getting settled in.
[19:29] <the_Bee> from Ireland to Virginia
[19:29] <elf> ahh... It takes me years tio get reallt settled
[19:30] <@KK> It's beautiful here. Wonderful fall color right about now.
[19:30] <elf> How was Ireland?
[19:30] <@KK> Ireland was great, but had gotten way too expensive--and we were ready to downsize.
[19:30] <elf> wher in Virghibia I used to live in Alexandria
[19:30] <@KK> Staunton.
[19:30] <%TheDeryni> The wife and I went leaf peeping today.
[19:31] <@KK> I love that term!
[19:31] <~RainbowDragon> Peeping under fig leaves?
[19:31] <@KK> There's good peeping in this part of Virginia.
[19:31] <elf> leaf peeping?
[19:31] <the_Bee> not at its peak here yet
[19:31] * %TheDeryni smacks RD with a red ice pepper.
[19:31] <~RainbowDragon> ouch!
[19:32] <%DesertRose> My cat Tessa has lost her mind, I think.
[19:32] <@KK> It's pretty much at its peak here, I suspect; lots of leaves falling off.  We need to get them hoovered up this next week.  At last phase I of that.
[19:32] <@KK> Why?
[19:32] <the_Bee> what's she doing now?
[19:32] <elf> Hmm ?
[19:32] <%DesertRose> Because of the way she's acting.  She kept acting like she wanted to jump up on the desk but stopping in mid jump and looking at me like I stopped her.
[19:32] <%TheDeryni> Observing the changes in the colors of the leaves, Elf
[19:33] * elf face palms "Doh!"
[19:33] <@KK> You mean that isn't normal cat behavior?
[19:33] <jemler> hi kk, sorry i didn't see you earlier, i was distracted!
[19:33] <%DesertRose> Tessa normally doesn't have such trouble making up her mind as to whether or not she wants to come up on the desk and get into trouble.
[19:34] <elf> ahh... she is expecting it and is trying to be sneakky... Ninja Cat
[19:34] <@KK> Hi, Jemler.  Mine have decided that the new desk shelves are wonderful cat highways.
[19:34] <%DesertRose> LOL, KK.
[19:35] <the_Bee> do they file themselves away?
[19:35] <elf> They do seem to like climbing on high up ledges when they can....
[19:35] <@KK> What's really amazing is watching them slither around the ends of shelves that are adjacent to one another.
[19:35] <the_Bee> lol
[19:35] <%DesertRose> Cats are fun to watch.  My two are a constant amusement for my entire household.
[19:36] <elf> The balance skills of cats are a source of wonderment
[19:36] <@KK> Very true.
[19:36] <elf> and if you get one with a bad attitude are an annoyance.
[19:36] <%DesertRose> Tessa hasn't got any.  She's the klutziest cat I ever met.
[19:37] <@KK> They just have different....priorities.
[19:37] <elf> One of University rommates had a siamese...
[19:37] <elf> very true KK
[19:37] <%DesertRose> Siamese cats are noisy.
[19:37] <%TheDeryni> Um, KK, may I ask a question?
[19:37] <elf> this one was an imp incarnate..
[19:37] <Kelric> oh.  hi all
[19:37] <@KK> I've never had one of those.  I understand that their temperament is somewhat different from regular DSH moggies.
[19:37] <@KK> They do have The Voice.
[19:38] <~RainbowDragon> Ask away, TD
[19:38] <jemler> as in Dune?
[19:38] <@KK> I think Jessie may be part Siamese, because she has The Voice.  Very athletic, too.
[19:38] <the_Bee> Melantha is chaty, but not really noisy
[19:38] <@KK> Ask, TD.
[19:39] <%TheDeryni> Okay thanks. What is the page count correlation between your software generated pages and lets say a paperback?
[19:39] <%DesertRose> Sweetie Pie is chatty; she mrrs at me all the time but doesn't actually meow much.
[19:39] <~RainbowDragon> I think KK has to look at word count more than page count
[19:40] <@KK> Hmmm, not sure.  There are always fewer printed pages than my computer count.
[19:40] <%TheDeryni> Okay, thanks.
[19:40] <@KK> I don't even look at that.  A book is however long it needs to be to tell that story.
[19:40] <@KK> Fortunately, my editors have never been word-count nazis.
[19:41] <%TheDeryni> lol
[19:41] <%DesertRose> LOL
[19:41] <elf> lol
[19:41] <the_Bee> Remind me: do you have a title for the 3rd Childe Morgan book?
[19:42] <@KK> Not yet.
[19:42] <jemler> short title :)
[19:43] <%TheDeryni> ROFL
[19:43] <%DesertRose> Smart mouth!
[19:43] <elf> lol
[19:43] <jemler> i have an Associate of Applied Business in Computer Technology. My mount has a Masters in Creative Communication!
[19:44] <jemler> that shoud be mouth. gotta learn to tpye :)
[19:44] <%DesertRose> Rented fingers are rampant tonight.
[19:44] <the_Bee> join the club, jemler
[19:44] <%TheDeryni> yep
[19:44] <elf> I rented my left fingers to you... be sure to pay the bill or they will be cut off
[19:44] <%DesertRose> Owie.
[19:45] <jemler> but i'm right handed!
[19:45] <elf> oh then I guess you won't need them then....
[19:45] <jemler> now i have 12 fingers!
[19:45] <the_Bee> lefty here
[19:45] <%DesertRose> I bought Halloween candy today; this year I hope I don't run out of candy before I run out of trick-or-treaters like I did last year.
[19:46] <%TheDeryni> I'm ambitexterous, neither work.
[19:46] <elf> hmm I don't get many trick or treaters out here
[19:46] <%DesertRose> LOL, TD.
[19:46] <elf> lol TD
[19:46] <%DesertRose> I got a ton last year; I ran out of candy and had to turn my light off.
[19:47] <the_Bee> I never had trick-or-treaters in my previous neighbothhods, but this is a family-type location
[19:47] <elf> Well that shows growth in you community!
[19:47] <@KK> I asked my neighbor whether we get many, but she said no.
[19:47] <elf> you = your
[19:47] <%DesertRose> I hate the teenagers who are too old to trick-or-treat but do it anyway and don't even bother to get in costumes.
[19:47] <%TheDeryni> It's an epidemic!
[19:47] <elf> then they should get a trick like raking the leaves off your lawn....
[19:48] <%DesertRose> Seriously.  A friend of mine suggested giving them toothbrushes instead of candy.
[19:48] <jemler> when i told my 7 year old nephew i was going as myself, he offered to let me use his Power Rangers costume!
[19:48] <%DesertRose> LOL
[19:48] <elf> that would work too....
[19:48] <the_Bee> the last time I had any was in 1977 at my parents home.  Not one kid said"trick or treat.  they juststared at me.  kind of took the fun out of it.
[19:48] <elf> ROFL
[19:48] <%TheDeryni> That's mean. DR. But funny.
[19:48] <@KK> She and I went to the last farmers' market of the season yesterday, and the little kids, 5 & under, were walking around in their adorable costumes and trick or treating at the stores downtown.  It was really sweet.
[19:49] <%DesertRose> I love the little ones who don't quite get it.
[19:49] <%DesertRose> I had a really good Superman last year who was about three and didn't quite understand what he was doing but he was SOOOO cute.
[19:49] <elf> I was downtown today and did not see many in costume...
[19:50] <@KK> There was this red dinosaur who looked about 3.  Preciouis.
[19:50] <the_Bee> a teacher friend of my mom once went t-or-t-ing with a sixpack of been in the sack
[19:50] <the_Bee> beer
[19:50] <elf> A friend of mine once said that sometime around three the light goes on.. but before that they are just observing...
[19:50] <the_Bee> a.m. or p.am?
[19:51] <jemler> p. am.???
[19:51] <the_Bee> p.m.
[19:51] <%TheDeryni> I was pulled over by a man in a policeman's costume last week.
[19:51] <%DesertRose> LOL
[19:51] <elf> AM if a person lives for a week
[19:51] <elf> lol, that is an old classic.. Did you get a fake ticket?
[19:51] <the_Bee> this year it will still be light out on Halloween.  daylight savings till November
[19:52] <jemler> takes all the fun out of scaring the little buggers, doesn't it?
[19:52] <%TheDeryni> No, but he let me go anyways.
[19:52] <%DesertRose> Yup, but I'll turn my light on outside anyway, just to let the trick-or-treaters know they can come to my house and get candy.
[19:52] <elf> We have switched already here I think... better confirm before tommorrow
[19:52] <@KK> I think it may be illegal to dreww as a policeman on the street, even if it's Halloween.  But a lot depends on attitude.
[19:53] <%TheDeryni> Next weekend here, Elf.
[19:53] <@KK> We haven't changed over yet.  At least my computer doesn't think we have.
[19:53] <jemler> mine either
[19:53] <%DesertRose> Neither does mine.
[19:53] <the_Bee> I don't think an 8-year-old policeman would get in too much trouble.
[19:53] <elf> true.. one my best friends got hauled into the station once on Halloween because he was dressed as terror-tourist
[19:54] <%TheDeryni> East coast is next week, KK
[19:54] <@KK> Sad, but in this day and age, one has to be careful.
[19:54] <elf> He was carrying a toy uzi that the police did not think to check until AFTER they hauled him in
[19:54] <@KK> I figured as much.
[19:54] <the_Bee> i thought all the USA changed at once
[19:54] <%DesertRose> I thought we did too.
[19:54] <@KK> I think some don't even change.
[19:54] <%DesertRose> Except for the places that don't do daylight savings time.
[19:55] <%DesertRose> Like Arizona, which doesn't bother.
[19:55] <the_Bee> yes
[19:55] <jemler> "All of your money won't another minute buy" - Dust in the Wind - Kansas
[19:55] <Kelric> well, I shoudl get around to writing my 350 word review of Deryni Rising for my YA lit class :)
[19:56] <the_Bee> Be kind.
[19:56] <%DesertRose> Three hundred fifty words?  You can gin that up in no time.
[19:56] <Kelric> absolutely
[19:56] <jemler> spell kk's name right!!!
[19:56] <%DesertRose> That's not even two pages.
[19:56] <Kelric> lol
[19:56] <jemler> write big!
[19:56] <%DesertRose> Sorry, English major.  I think nothing of writing 20-page papers.
[19:57] <Kelric> at least I'm feeling about 75% now compared to the 40%ish or less I was feeling yesterday.
[19:57] <%DesertRose> Are you unwell, Kelric?
[19:57] <elf> yep next weekend for us too.. just checked
[19:58] <elf> unwell Kelric?
[19:58] <Kelric> bad batch of chinese on friday night.  I was flat on my back for 90% of yesterday
[19:58] <%DesertRose> Yuck.
[19:58] <elf> ohh... I hate that
[19:58] * the_Bee Quit (Software caused connection abort)
[19:58] <elf> I have had that happen twice in my life... not pleasant
[19:58] <%DesertRose> Nope, it's not.
[19:59] <@KK> No, hate that!
[19:59] <%DesertRose> KK, how many kitties do you have these days?
[19:59] <%TheDeryni> So, KK, why did you pick Virginia?
[19:59] <Kelric> what made it more annoying is my brother's up in lake geneva right now playing bridge so I was stuck at home alone.
[20:00] <@KK> Anyway, I've also got to scoot.  There's a chicken that needs dismembering into dinner.  I have 5 cats--no connection with dinner, except that they will smell the chicken and want it.  :-)
[20:00] * %DesertRose hugs Kelric.
[20:00] * the_Bee has joined #deryni_destinations
[20:00] <&DeryniBot>  Hi there the_Bee! Welcome to the chat.
[20:00] <%DesertRose> LOL, my cats always want whatever I'm cooking too, but I only have to fight off two cats.
[20:00] <jemler> you're not going to serve chicken cat chatore?
[20:00] <%TheDeryni> Okay, bye KK. Take care.
[20:00] <%TheDeryni> lol
[20:00] <the_Bee> nighters kk.  have a good week
[20:00] <%DesertRose> Have a good week, KK.
[20:00] <@KK> Virginia is a lot like Ireland, especially here in the Shenandoah--and we're close enough to DC and a lot of our friends.
[20:01] <%TheDeryni> Ah
[20:01] <@KK> There are also lots of historic houses in Virginia, of which we have one.  :-)
[20:01] <Kelric> quick question here.  how many here think that Colorado's done?
[20:01] <%TheDeryni> :)
[20:01] <jemler> done what?
[20:01] <@KK> Nighters, all.  See you next week.
[20:02] <%DesertRose> G'night KK.
[20:02] <elf> night KK
[20:02] <%TheDeryni> bye
[20:02] <jemler> night, kk. happy halloween!
[20:02] <~RainbowDragon> Thanks for stopping by, KK
[20:02] * @KK steps onto her Portal, waves good night, and disappears in a shower of green sparkles.
[20:02] <the_Bee> there's always hope till the last out. But I;m from Red Sox Nation
[20:02] * @KK Quit (Quit: )
"If having a soul means being able to feel love, loyalty, and gratitude, then animals are better off than a lot of humans."

James Herriot (James Alfred "Alfie" Wight), when a human client asked him if animals have souls.  (I don't remember in which book the story originally appeared.)
