[18:03] * KK () has joined #Deryni_Destinations [18:03] <+Eris> <Nezz> Hullo Miss KK [18:03] <KK> Hello, all. [18:04] <+Eris> <Nezz> How's your week been? [18:04] <The_Bee> Yes. He took care of Melantha when I was recovering from surgery, and when I went to Vermont for Christmas without her. [18:04] <+Eris> <Shiral> Hi KK, Nezz and Bee [18:04] <The_Bee> HI kk! [18:04] <+Eris> <Nezz> Hi Shiral [18:05] <KK> Wek has been ok. [18:05] <KK> week [18:05] <KK> Bee, how is Meleantha doing? [18:06] <The_Bee> FYI, the Hallmark channel is showing a movie this week, The Nine Kittens of Christmas. It's about people trying to find new homes for a bunch of kittens. [18:06] <+Eris> <Nezz> Awwwwwww!!!! [18:07] <The_Bee> Melantha seems okay. but I STILL HAVEN'T GIVEN HER THE FLUIDS. sHE HAS BEEN GETTING HER THYROID PILLS. [18:07] <KK> Bee, I'll watch for that one. [18:07] <The_Bee> oops! didn't mean to shout. [18:07] <+Eris> <Nezz> How much does the vet charge to give her fluids? [18:09] <The_Bee> I'm not sure; it was partof the day's treatment. I'll need to get her on the floor and hold her with my legs. [18:09] * derynifank () has joined #Deryni_Destinations [18:09] <The_Bee> Hi DFK [18:09] <+Eris> <Nezz> Hello DFK [18:09] <+Eris> <Shiral> Hi DFK [18:09] <KK> Never had to do that for any of my cats, but I don't think it's terribly difficult. Might be a two-person procedure, though, since I can't imagine the cat would be terribly cooperative. [18:09] <derynifank> Hi Bee, ezz and shiral [18:09] <The_Bee> KK, the movie is airing several times here in Boston. [18:10] <+Eris> <Shiral> It helps to either have a second person or to grow a third arm when giving fluids to a cat [18:10] <derynifank> Hi KK [18:10] <KK> I think I saw the title in the TV guide. [18:10] * Imladris (Imladris@owirc-37g.6ok.71.216.IP) has joined #Deryni_Destinations [18:10] <Imladris> greetings all [18:10] <derynifank> It helps to have a secnd person when doing anything to a gat [18:10] <+Eris> <Shiral> I had to give Nina fluids in the last months of her life. She was NOT happy about the process. [18:10] <KK> I wonder of one of those zip purrito baggie thingies would be useful. [18:10] <The_Bee> I've done it before, but some of the fluid got wasted when she pulled away from the needle. [18:10] <+Eris> <Shiral> Hi Imladris [18:10] <+Eris> <Nezz> Hello Dr Imladris [18:10] <The_Bee> Hi Imladris [18:11] <KK> Hello, Imladris. [18:11] <fenix> hi all [18:11] <derynifank> Hi Imladris [18:11] <+Eris> <Shiral> Hi Fenix [18:11] <KK> Hello, fenix. [18:11] <Imladris> hi fenix [18:11] <derynifank> Hi fenix, mystery person [18:11] <The_Bee> Hi fenix [18:12] <fenix> mystery?? ha [18:12] <+Eris> <Shiral> I just remember having to hold the needle with one hand, the cat with t he other, and then trying to figure out how to unclip the hose so that the fluids could start flowing [18:12] <The_Bee> That's what knees are for. [18:12] <derynifank> very difficult [18:13] <The_Bee> is Fenix from Phoenix? [18:13] <+Eris> <Shiral> I was standing, and the cat was in the sink. Knees were not going to work in that case [18:13] <+Eris> <Nezz> lol [18:13] <KK> Not at all, Shiral. [18:13] <Imladris> not unless you could get the cat to hold it. [18:13] <+Eris> <Nezz> Fenix is Iowa, isn't he? [18:13] <The_Bee> I've thought of putting her in her carry sack, but I'm not sure herneck would be exposed enough. [18:14] <+Eris> <Shiral> I'm a terrible contortionist. And the cat was very definite about conveying that if I let go of her, she was OUT of there. [18:14] <derynifank> And I'm sure the cat was nt cooperating [18:14] <Imladris> now... if you were a healer you could have done it... [18:14] <KK> True. [18:14] <+Eris> <Nezz> My vet techs always put the needle in kitty's back not neck. Between the shoulder blades [18:15] <+Eris> <Shiral> Alas, Imladris, I completely lack that skill. Can't even produce handfire [18:15] <The_Bee> I tried to do it while holding her in my lap. It didn't work. [18:15] <+Eris> <Shiral> That's how they told me to do it, too. Nina still wanted no part of it [18:15] <The_Bee> yes, back. The vet shaved a spot for me. [18:15] <KK> Lap would not be a good idea. Apt to get the bejeebers clawed out of the tops of your thighs, not to mention your arms. [18:16] <fenix> fenix or phoenix or any other spelling of it in chat is always bynw which is just another spelling of phoenix [18:16] <derynifank> where you can reach IT and they can't [18:17] <+Eris> <Nezz> I've got three kitties sitting on me at the moment. they dont like this conversation. 😉 [18:17] <+Eris> <Shiral> Entirely too vet oriented for them, I'll bet Nezz! [18:17] <+Eris> <Jerusha2> Hi Everyone [18:17] <The_Bee> Hello, Nezz's kitties! [18:17] <+Eris> <Shiral> Perhaps we should talk about tuna, instead. [18:17] <+Eris> <Nezz> Hi Jerusha [18:17] <KK> Hi, Jerusha. [18:17] <derynifank> Hi Jerusha [18:17] <+Eris> <Shiral> Hi Jerusha2 [18:18] <The_Bee> Hi Jerusha [18:18] <Imladris> city in Tolkien [18:18] <+Eris> <Nezz> Mousie, Frankie, and Shelly say mew [18:18] <+Eris> <Shiral> equips the chatroom tea table with tea, scones butter and jam and tuna for Nezz's kitties [18:18] <+Eris> <Jerusha2> offers scritches [18:18] <derynifank> and hello to them too [18:18] <+Eris> <Nezz> Tha's great, Shelly was complaining earlier about the lack of tuna after the sound of the can opener. [18:18] <+Eris> <Shiral> Hello to Mousie, Frankie and Shelly [18:18] <derynifank> Lovely tea table [18:18] <The_Bee> Where's Desert Rose? [18:19] <+Eris> <Shiral> Wondering that, too [18:19] <+Eris> <Nezz> fenix, do we have anyone recording this? [18:19] <KK> Maybe she's doing something fun. [18:19] <+Eris> <Jerusha2> Funner than chat? [18:19] <+Eris> <Shiral> Fun? We can't have THAT!! 😏 [18:20] <fenix> my other nick is [18:21] <+Eris> <Nezz> We need a topic; everything's kinda quiet. [18:21] <+Eris> <Nezz> Gratitude. [18:21] <Imladris> went to mannheim steamroller last night? [18:21] <derynifank> I thought it was bennu. How many do you have? [18:21] <+Eris> <Shiral> Grateful I can have my family over for Thanksgiving this year [18:21] <+Eris> <Jerusha2> In love Mannheim Steamroller [18:21] <+Eris> <Jerusha2> I, that is [18:21] <+Eris> <Nezz> Grateful for you folks. [18:22] <+Eris> <Jerusha2> No kitties; DS3 is allergic [18:23] <The_Bee> Who or what is mannheim steamroller? [18:23] <+Eris> <Nezz> lizards are great. although it's hard to tell when they're sick. [18:23] <+Eris> <Jerusha2> Great musical group, Bee [18:23] <+Eris> <Jerusha2> Lots of orchestra [18:23] <Imladris> true.. Bronwyn is snuggling spouse.. and both dozing [18:23] <derynifank> Aah, multiple aliases. What are you up to [18:23] <The_Bee> rock? steampunk, Rap? [18:23] <fenix> i don't know where DR is tonight. i don't have a message from her that i've seen yet [18:23] <+Eris> <Nezz> Mannheim Steamroller is a class by themselves [18:24] <Imladris> jazz orchestra? [18:24] <+Eris> <Nezz> None of the above. [18:24] <Imladris> 35 year [18:24] <+Eris> <Jerusha2> Eclectic orchestra, with some electronic stuff as well [18:24] <+Eris> <Nezz> They tour the country every November/December playing Christmas concerts [18:24] <+Eris> <Nezz> They do a medieval Christmas show [18:24] <derynifank> Their concerts are great [18:25] <Imladris> was very good last night [18:25] <KK> I've herd of them, but don't think I've actually heard them. [18:25] <The_Bee> Sounds good, I'll have to look them up. Youtube? [18:25] <+Eris> <Jerusha2> Attended one concert; would go back in a heartbeat [18:25] <Imladris> yes. they are on youtube [18:25] <+Eris> <Nezz> https://youtu.be/b4GUpF0gIGQ [18:26] <+Eris> <Jerusha2> They also do the Fresh Aire series [18:26] <The_Bee> One of my favorite carols is, "Tomorrow Shall Be My Dancing Day." [18:27] <The_Bee> Thanks , Nezz! I'm saving it for later. [18:27] <derynifank> They would definitely "drive the cold winter away" (medieval carol) [18:29] <derynifank> We will probable need it. Here cold is headed our way [18:29] <The_Bee> I like carols we don't hear that often. I have a love-hate relationship with Silent Night. [18:29] <Imladris> I like the sad one by longfellow. [18:29] <+Eris> <Nezz> Oh, I understnad that. Beautiful song, gets so much overplay during Nov/Dec [18:29] <Imladris> when his son was injured during the war. [18:30] <+Eris> <Nezz> I don't know which that one that is Imladris... [18:30] <+Eris> <bynw> i can chat here too 🙂 [18:30] <The_Bee> I Heard the Bells on Christmas Day. I've heard three different melodies for that. [18:30] <Imladris> two different toons for it .. I heard the bells on christmas day [18:30] <Imladris> I love the version with Karen Carpenter. [18:30] <Imladris> tunes too [18:30] <+Eris> <Nezz> Ah, that is a good one. 🙂 [18:31] <The_Bee> We have it in our hymnal atchurch. [18:31] <The_Bee> don't know theename of the tune. [18:31] <Imladris> makes me a little misty reading the story that lead to Longfellow writing it [18:31] <Imladris> led [18:32] <The_Bee> There's one verse that sometimes gets left out. something about "the cannon thundered in the South. [18:33] <Imladris> think are either 5 or 6 verses... [18:33] <KK> So, that's "I Heard the Bells on Christmas Day"? [18:33] <The_Bee> That Many? [18:33] <Imladris> yes. [18:33] <+Eris> <Nezz> I've only heard 5 verses [18:34] <derynifank> I also like What Child is This [18:34] <Imladris> seven verses [18:35] <The_Bee> and" Joseph, Dearest Joseph Mine" [18:36] <KK> I've never heard that one, Bee. [18:36] <derynifank> I don't know that one [18:36] * Imladris (Imladris@owirc-37g.6ok.71.216.IP) Quit (Quit: Connection closed) [18:37] * Imladris () has joined #Deryni_Destinations [18:37] <+Eris> <Jerusha2> WB Imladris [18:37] <Imladris> It didn't like me posting the poem [18:37] <+Eris> <Nezz> Oh yeah, the poem didn't come throuigh [18:37] <+Eris> <bynw> i'll post the chat log later this evening when i get back home [18:38] <Imladris> I heard the bells on Christmas Day [18:38] <Imladris> Their old, familiar carols play, [18:38] <Imladris> And wild and sweet [18:38] <Imladris> The words repeat [18:38] <Imladris> Of peace on earth, good-will to men! [18:38] <Imladris> And thought how, as the day had come, [18:38] <Imladris> The belfries of all Christendom [18:38] <Imladris> Had rolled along [18:38] <Imladris> The unbroken song [18:38] <Imladris> Of peace on earth, good-will to men! [18:43] <derynifank> Bye Imladirs, happy Thanksgiving [18:43] <+Eris> <Nezz> Have any of y'all seen The Chosen? [18:43] <The_Bee> not I [18:43] <+Eris> <Jerusha2> Nope [18:43] <KK> I've seen some of it. Good production values. [18:44] <derynifank> Nope. [18:44] <KK> Worth watching. [18:44] <+Eris> <Nezz> It's a show about... I guess it's about Jesus gathering His disciples. [18:44] <derynifank> Have any of you seen Spencer? About Diana nut really different [18:45] <+Eris> <Nezz> I really enjoy the fact that they focus a lot on the humanity of Jesus anad the fact that the disciples were all just people with problems like the rest of us. [18:45] <KK> Is it out yet? I do want to see it. [18:45] <KK> Spencer, that is. [18:45] <+Eris> <Nezz> Not seen Spencer yet. Good stuff? [18:46] <derynifank> Good but really different. Told completely from her point of view, like you are inside of head [18:46] <The_Bee> I wonder how the Royals feel about it. [18:46] <derynifank> Her Head, seeing things as she sees them [18:47] <KK> CNN recently did a Diana series, all "in her own words." It was pretty good. [18:47] <derynifank> I missed that. Hope they will rerun it [18:47] <The_Bee> I tend to avoid shows about Diana. I feel like an eavesdropper. [18:47] <+Eris> <Nezz> KK, did the British press have a field day with her, or did they all loev her? (and I ask because you were over there at that time and experienced it) [18:49] <KK> There was a lot of hysteria. Her faults were mainly glossed over at the time. [18:52] <+Eris> <Shiral> Happy Thanksgiving, Everyone. I'm heading off for a wee afternoon nap [18:52] <+Eris> <Nezz> cya Shiral, you take care [18:52] <+Eris> <Shiral> waves farewell, steps onto her portal and disappears in a cloud of blue steam [18:52] <+Eris> <Shiral> BYE! [18:52] <The_Bee> Happy napping, Shiral! And happy Thanksgiving [18:53] <+Eris> <Jerusha2> Have a happy Thanksgiving, Shiral! [18:53] <derynifank> By Shiral. Happy Thankstiving [18:53] <+Eris> <Nezz> wow, you lose a DR and a Laurna and the chat just goes dead... 🙂 [18:54] <The_Bee> Have most of the British press been harsh on Meghan? or just a few? [18:55] <KK> Nighters, Shiral. [18:56] <KK> Most, I think, Bee. She's quite a piece of work. [18:57] <The_Bee> That sound as if you agree with them, KK. [18:57] <+Eris> <Nezz> It does... [18:57] <derynifank> She admitted she knew nothing about the monarchy or rpyal life and di't make any effort to find oyr [18:57] <derynifank> out [18:57] <KK> And of course, the situation isn't helped by the fact that the Queen is winding down, and the uncertainty about what the future will hold. [18:57] <+Eris> <Jerusha2> She didn't do her homework [18:58] <The_Bee> Charles will have a much shorter reign than his mother. [18:58] <KK> I'm not a fan. And she certainly did not do her homework. [18:58] <KK> Anyone would have a shorter reign, unless perhaps it's young Prince George. Elizabeth has had the longest reign of any British monarch. [18:59] <The_Bee> There will not be another Queen Regnant in our lifetimes. [18:59] <+Eris> <Nezz> gosh, she's been at it since about '53, wasn't it? [18:59] <KK> Meghan had the chance for the greatest role of a lifetime, and she totally did not prepare. [18:59] <derynifank> People seem to really look favorably on William and Kate, not sure how things will go for Charles although he is doing a lot of the work now as the Queen is more fragile [19:00] <KK> Charles' health is not the greatest. He could kick off before Her Maj. [19:01] <The_Bee> That would put a burden on William. [19:01] <KK> In a way, that would be a shame. He's spent his entire life preparing to be King, and he won't get to do it for long, just because of his age. [19:01] <derynifank> How long did Edward erign after Queen Victoria died? [19:02] <derynifank> reign [19:02] <KK> Well. William has also been preparing. And he has a very suitable wife and 3 beautiful children. [19:03] <+Eris> <Nezz> I was reading some stuff about the French revolution yesterday; how did the English manage to avoid that happening there? Did they just take better care of their peasantry class? [19:03] <The_Bee> I've read someplace that Elizabeth would have liked to spend more time as a wife and mother before she had to become Queen. [19:04] <KK> Yes, it's said that she loved her life with Philip before she became queen. [19:04] <derynifank> I was really impressed with William's program to combat climate change, the Earthshot Prized modeled on Kennedy's Moonshot, to put a man on the moon in ten yeRA [19:04] <derynifank> years [19:05] <KK> The two classes of peasantry were quite different. And the British monarchs never got to the same sense of entitlement that the French did. Totaly different mind-sets. [19:05] <KK> Both Charles and William have always been fierce advocates for the environment. [19:06] <The_Bee> Good for them! [19:06] <derynifank> Wish we had someone with the same level of passsion here [19:06] <The_Bee> Biden is trying. [19:06] <KK> And William and Kate are teaching their children the same respect for nature. [19:08] <KK> On that note, I think I need to go contend with my own force of nature, as Booker is reminding me that my dog is starving away to a shadow of his former self. [19:08] <+Eris> <Nezz> poor starving puppy [19:08] <+Eris> <Jerusha2> Poor Booker! [19:08] <+Eris> <Nezz> take care, KK [19:08] <KK> Have a wonderful Thanksgiving, all, and remember to be grateful for all our many blessings. [19:09] <+Eris> <Jerusha2> Nighters, KK [19:09] <+Eris> <Nezz> you have a great week and amazing Thanksgiving [19:09] <+Eris> <Jerusha2> Happy thanksgiving, KK [19:09] <derynifank> Puppy must be fed . have a Happy Thanksgiving KK and a great week. [19:09] <The_Bee> Nighters, KK! Happy thanksgiving to you and Booker. Will you be dining with friends or family? [19:10] <KK> Also, before I leave, a book recommendation: I've been reading Gen. Colin Powell's autobiography. An excellent recounting of a most extraordinary life. I always liked him, and I'm glad I picked up this book. It ends before 9-11 and his stint as Sec. of State, but I'm going to do some sleuthing to see whether he or someone else did a followup for those later [19:11] <The_Bee> He was quite a man. [19:11] <+Eris> <Nezz> He really seemed to be. 😉 [19:11] <KK> years. Watched his funeral, and it was everything it should have been for a man of his remarkable life and achievement. [19:11] <derynifank> I was sorry he never ran for president. I would have voted for him [19:12] * KK steps onto her Portal and waves goodbye before disappearing in a shower of green sparkles. [19:12] <The_Bee> As shakespeare said, "He was a man, take hhim for all inall; I shall not look upon his like again." [19:12] <+Eris> <Jerusha2> I should go too. Have a Happy Thanksgiving, everyone! [19:12] <KK> His wife was afraid he might get assassinated. But I agree that he would have been quite a good president. I would have voted for him. [19:12] <derynifank> So true [19:13] <KK> And on that note, Good night! [19:13] * KK () Quit (Quit: https://mibbit.com Online IRC Client)
