Does anyone recall if the various noble houses of the Eleven Kingdoms had mottos-- or what any of those mottos were? Or what the royal standards looked like under the Festillic kings? Did they use the Lion? Where did I get the idea that the Torenthi standard had a stag's head?

I also remember the Torenthi standard has a stag's head. I think it would have been mentioned in High Deryni if not before, during the war with Wencit. I am not aware of any mottos and can't recall if the Festillic standards differed, though I imagine they would have. But I have read the Kelson era books much more frequently and recently than any of the Camber/immediate post-Camber books.
DoctorM. If you go to the Deryni Archives. The first three issues have several shields displayed for Heraldry of some of the greater families. I don't think there are very many mottos mentioned.
Deryni Archives Fan E-Zine Copies of the first three issues can be downloaded in the individual topics under here:

For Talon. see the second issue, page six. Two lions claws
We also had someone, in the last year or two, post on the forum several really nice colored shields of what they thought the Heraldry should be. Not all of it was accurate but most of it was pretty good. For the life of me I can not find that topic thread.
Personally, I thought the Festil's were the Leaping Hart.
But DocM? You are one of our experts on this matter, Would it be wrong of me to say go ask DoctorM? LOL. Sorry, just had to jest. I know it is frustatting when you think you read something somewhere at some time and can not find it.

The Torenthi standard did have a leaping hart or stag I don't recall one with just the head

I'll have to take a look. I have memories of a stag, but it's been a long time since I've looked. It's always annoying when my memory fails to bring up things I *know* I read/knew once upon a time.
Thanks everyone!

I found the Heraldry topic with some nice artistic shields displayed.

I wrote in replay #60 "We know the House of Furstan is a leaping hart emblazoned in black on a roundel of silver on an orange field, codex pg 101. I personally don't know if Festil changed his arms when he became King of Gwynedd. But I recall that he kept the leaping hart."
I hope there is some help from this, DoctorM.
Yes, very much! Thanks for the help!
