[16:58] <Annie> hi Martine
[16:58] <Martine> Hi Sedina & Shiral!
[16:58] <Debbie-VB> I was born and raised in the roman Catholic church,
but have been going to the anglican church for nearly 3 yrs now
[16:58] <RainbowDragon> Hi, Martine
[16:58] <Martine> hi annie!
[16:59] <the_Bee> good evening Katherine
[16:59] <KK> Hello, all.
[16:59] <Wrengl> hi martine
[16:59] <Debbie-VB> Hi Katherine
[16:59] <KK> Sedina, how's it going?
[16:59] <Dov> ah...congrats
[16:59] <Sedina> Going great.....getting eager for summer to be here.
:) Already got lots of things lined up. Have all of last year to
make up for after all
[17:00] <KK> Are you still at Mayo?
[17:00] <Martine> And we're going to make sure "idle at beach" is on
that list! <G>
[17:00] <the_Bee> KK, I've been wondering: how did you come up with the
term "Deryni"?
[17:00] <Sedina> Yup. Nine treatments in.....15 more to go. My
surgery is scheduled for the 3rd.
[17:00] <KK> And a wedding? she asked.
[17:00] <RainbowDragon> KK: I hope my note isn't wrong or I'll be
embarrassed but - Happy Anniversary!
[17:00] * Bynw has joined #Deryni_Destinations
[17:00] <DeryniBot> Welcome Bynw to #Deryni_Destinations - The virtual
home of Katherine Kurtz
[17:00] <KK> Thank you.
[17:00] <Martine> hi bynw!
[17:00] <Shiral> wb, bynw
[17:00] <Annie> hi bynw
[17:00] <Sedina> lol No wedding yet. Have to go through the
government stuff first. They take forever to do the paperwork
[17:00] <Bynw> hiyas all
[17:00] <kirienne> hi bynw
[17:01] <Shiral> Congratulations on the anniversary, Katherine and
Scott
[17:01] <KK> It was....unusual. I had to go rescue Oswald from the
mountainside, with a broken humerous.
[17:01] <kirienne> yes, congratulations
[17:01] <Sedina> but we are making plans for Cole to be able to be at
Darkover this year
[17:01] <KK> Excellent!
[17:01] <Sedina> poor Oswald....what happened?
[17:01] <Shiral> Poor Oswald, how did that happen?
[17:01] <Martine> Happy anniversary!
[17:01] <Wrengl> hi kk
[17:01] <kirienne> poor oswald
[17:01] * RainbowDragon changes topic to 'Official Chat of Katherine
Kurtz - Happy Anniversary Katherine and Scott! '
[17:01] <Sedina> Yes, happy anniversary! :)
[17:01] <KK> We don't know, but he was up there for about 48 hours, and
I had to commandeer a jeep to get up to him.
[17:01] <Wrengl> i start my radiation therapy tomorrow, katherine
[17:01] <the_Bee> happy anniversary. who's oswald?
[17:01] <Martine> Is the actual day yesterday or today?
[17:01] * Ghostgames has joined #Deryni_Destinations
[17:01] <DeryniBot> Ghostgames has taken the Oaths and has become a
member of the Knights Templars
[17:01] <Bynw> Anniversaries are neat!
[17:01] <Shiral> hi ann
[17:02] <Bynw> Hiyas Ann
[17:02] <Martine> hi ann!
[17:02] <Sedina> hi ann
[17:02] <Debbie-VB> Hi ann
[17:02] <Ghostgames> hi, all!
[17:02] <Wrengl> hi ann
[17:02] <Annie> hi Ann
[17:02] <kirienne> hi Ann
[17:02] <KK> Yesterday. We now share an anniversary with the Prince of
Wales and Duchess of Cornwall.
[17:02] <Wrengl> ndeed
[17:02] <kirienne> Good luck with that Pat
[17:02] <Shiral> Indirectly, thanks to the Pope
[17:02] <Wrengl> happy anniversary katherine
[17:02] <Martine> lol that's true!
[17:02] <Wrengl> thanks kirienne
[17:02] <Ghostgames> The Prince and Duchess are in good company, then.
;-)
[17:02] <Wrengl> yes they are
[17:02] <Shiral> Who's funeral was scheduled for their original wedding
date
[17:02] <KK> Oswald is a Bassador. His sister came home without him
Friday night, after neither of them showed up for supper on Thursday.
[17:03] <Sedina> Had a case of spring fever and felt the need to go
exploring, I'm sure
[17:03] <Debbie-VB> Bassador? Like in a Basset/lab cross?
[17:04] <Martine> With the cutest golden retriever face, yes
[17:04] <KK> We have to pick him up at the emergency vet at 0700
tomorrow and transport him back to his own vet, who presumably will do
orthopedic surgery to pin/plate the break. Tricky surgery, that high
up the leg--right front.
[17:04] <Wrengl> am glad oswald is safe
[17:04] <Martine> Is Scrappy still moping?
[17:04] <Wrengl> poor oswald
[17:04] <Shiral> It's been a hard year on the dogs, concerning broken
limbs
[17:04] * Debbie-VB sends Oswald some leg-healing woodgies
[17:04] <Wrengl> shiral they were supposed to get married friday but
for the pope's funeral
[17:04] <KK> Yep, his mom is a Crufts champion, and Daddy is a golden
lab/black lab cross.
[17:05] <Shiral> I know, this is what I said, Pat
[17:05] <Wrengl> sorry late response from the tippy me
[17:05] <Shiral> Indirectly, thanks to the Pope, whose funeral was
scheduled for their original wedding date
[17:05] <Wrengl> yup
[17:05] <KK> Scrappy is definitely moping. She had to leave him up on
the mountain. Martine, they were halfway up the Sugarloaf.
[17:05] <Martine> Wow! That's a real distance!
[17:06] <Shiral> I hope Oswald is feeling better soon, poor guy.
[17:06] <Annie> they did maintain they were sticking to the date for a
long time, till they realised how many people would have to be in 2
places at once
[17:06] <KK> Well, we let them keep him today, even though it cost us
an extra nearly 100 euro, because we knew they could keep him more
comfortable than we could at home.
[17:07] <Sedina> poor Oswald
[17:07] <Sedina> I hope that the surgery goes well for him
[17:07] <Martine> me too!
[17:07] <kirienne> poor Oswald needs to be comfortable now
[17:07] * Debbie-VB has a vision of Oswald on a pair of little
doggie-crutches
[17:07] <Martine> And then hopefully in future he won't go wandering so
far. Not only is it a distance, but it's *really* rough and steep
terrain.
[17:08] <Shiral> After what must have been an uncomfortable night of
being unable to get home
[17:08] <Martine> Riding horses over it was an adventure
[17:08] <KK> It was miraculous that he was found. We put out the word
at the stables, and a ride-out spotted him by the side of the trail,
unable to get up. We'd figured it might be his back, but fortunately
it wasn't; leg is easier to fix.
[17:08] <RainbowDragon> dumb question - how would 100 euro convert to
american dollars?
[17:08] <kirienne> he must have been in so much pain, and feeling so
alone and scared
[17:08] <Shiral> Thank goodness, they DID find him
[17:08] <Martine> yes!
[17:08] <KK> About $130.
[17:08] <Shiral> And that it was his leg, not his back
[17:09] <Martine> Yes! Legs heal ever so much better.
[17:09] <RainbowDragon> ah... thanks, KK
[17:09] <KK> So instead of a glamorouis dinner out, we went to Dun
Laoghaire and had a pizza.
[17:09] <RainbowDragon> glad the doggie is alive and safe
[17:09] <KK> Wrengl, you said you start your radiation tomorrow?
[17:09] <Martine> Katherine, when John and I are eating in NYC next
weekend, we'll have an extra dark chocolate dessert for you to make up
for the pizza! <g>
[17:10] <kirienne> lol martine
[17:10] <Sedina> Is next weekend your "spa" weekend, Martine?
[17:10] <Martine> yup! whoo hoo!
[17:11] * Debbie-VB wishes she could afford a spa weekend
[17:11] <Martine> Weekend at the W New York, 75-minute birthday
massage, and two evenings of dinner in nice restaurants :-D
[17:11] <Martine> Debbie, we wouldn't be affording it if I hadn't won
the free hotel stay in Feb!
[17:11] <KK> Nice prize.
[17:11] <Shiral> Very nice, that it worked out close to your birthday,
too
[17:11] <Dov> bye for now, happy anniversary katherine
[17:12] <kirienne> very nice prize
[17:12] <Martine> We got to pick the weekend. That's not coincidence
;-)
[17:12] <KK> Bye, Dov.
[17:12] <kirienne> bye Dov
[17:12] * Dov Quit
[17:12] * Dov has left IRC
[17:12] <the_Bee> seeya dov
[17:12] <Sedina> bye Dov
[17:12] <Shiral> Ah, well, that makes a lot of sense =o)
[17:12] <Martine> brb. Checking on dinner
[17:12] * babayaga has joined #Deryni_Destinations
[17:12] <DeryniBot> Welcome babayaga to #Deryni_Destinations - The
virtual home of Katherine Kurtz
[17:12] <RainbowDragon> Hi, babayaga
[17:12] <Debbie-VB> Hi Babayaga
[17:12] <the_Bee> hi babayaga
[17:12] <Sedina> Hi babayaga
[17:12] <babayaga> hi rd
[17:13] <Annie> hi babayaga
[17:13] <babayaga> and all
[17:13] <KK> Hello, babayaga.
[17:13] <Shiral> Hello babayaga
[17:13] <babayaga> Hi KK, nice to see ya
[17:13] <kirienne> hi babayaga
[17:13] <RainbowDragon> Yesterday was KK's anniversary
[17:13] <babayaga> congrats, KK
[17:14] <Martine> back!
[17:14] <Debbie-VB> and she earned a whole lot of good karma by
rescuing Oswald
[17:14] <KK> Oswald was rescued through the kindness of lots of other
people, though, because without them, I wouldn't have known where he
was.
[17:14] <KK> KK, dog rescuer.
[17:15] <Martine> LOL! It's a very important job!
[17:15] <Shiral> And periodic cat rescuer
[17:15] <KK> That, too.
[17:15] <Martine> Times six at the moment <g>
[17:15] <Martine> How's Sasha doing?
[17:15] <RainbowDragon> Her, dog (a bassador) ended up with a broken
leg though
[17:15] <Shiral> Not to mention Deryni rescuer
[17:15] <KK> Sasha followed Scott up to the SECOND landing tonight! He
raelly wants to be with us, but the dogs are just too scary.
[17:16] <Martine> Up to the second landing? Go Sasha!
[17:16] <the_Bee> KK, how did you come up with the term "deryni"?
[17:16] <Sedina> At least he's venturing out of the kitchen
[17:16] <Martine> He's at an advantage for a bit with only one dog in
the house.
[17:16] <RainbowDragon> Good question, Bee!
[17:17] <KK> I made it up, but it's related to the Welsh word for oak,
which also has esoteric connotations.
[17:17] <Bynw> what's the welsh word?
[17:17] <the_Bee> druid stuff?
[17:18] <Debbie-VB> Definitly a druidic connection with the oak
[17:18] <KK> derwen
[17:18] <RainbowDragon> KK: were the Deryni always christian or were
they pagan and then converted by the human majority?
[17:18] <Bynw> i would say yes on that too Druid related
[17:19] * TerryOBrien has joined #Deryni_Destinations
[17:19] <DeryniBot> TerryOBrien has taken the Oaths and has become a
member of the Knights Templars
[17:19] <Sedina> hi terry
[17:19] <TerryOBrien> Hello everyone!
[17:19] <Shiral> hi Terry
[17:19] <RainbowDragon> Welcome, Terry
[17:19] <the_Bee> hi TerryO
[17:19] <Debbie-VB> hi terry
[17:19] <KK> Yep, Druid was another source.
[17:19] <kirienne> hi terry
[17:19] <Martine> hi terry!
[17:19] <KK> There was certainly heavy pagan influence earlier on.
[17:20] <Ghostgames> hi, terry!
[17:20] <RainbowDragon> Okay, I wondered about that
[17:20] <TerryOBrien> Working on my (business) tax info and barely
remembered the time.
[17:20] <the_Bee> I imagine Deryni existed pre-Christianity
[17:20] <KK> But they probably ocnverted about the same time as
everyone else.
[17:20] <Martine> LOL Terry! I just finished our personal taxes an hour
ago.
[17:20] <Debbie-VB> aaaaaaaaargh! taxes!!!!!!!!!!
[17:21] <the_Bee> I'm in the middle of my taxes
[17:21] <KK> I still have to do ours.
[17:21] <TerryOBrien> I'm geting the info together for the accountant
tomorrow. Lots of details to get straight.
[17:21] <Martine> They owe us a nice big check this year. Almost makes
up for what we had to give them last year!
[17:21] <Shiral> Just be glad you don't have to pay taxes to Loris. His
late penalties are ferocious
[17:21] <Martine> lol!
[17:21] <Sedina> lol Shiral
[17:21] <the_Bee> I forgot I have a 1099-B this year :o(
[17:21] <KK> Almost as herocious as the IRS.
[17:21] <kirienne> that's good Martine...i have to send them a check as
usual
[17:21] <Debbie-VB> What's the tax rate like in Ireland?
[17:21] <Martine> And if he senses a problem, he tends to burn first
and ask questions later.
[17:21] <KK> ferocious
[17:22] <Shiral> Now, Katherine, I've never known the IRS to pull out
fingernails
[17:22] <KK> That's probably true.
[17:22] <Shiral> Toenails, maybe, but not fingernails
[17:22] <Martine> LOL *probably*?
[17:22] <the_Bee> heroic AND ferocious?
[17:22] <Debbie-VB> Loris only doesthat to over-due Deryni
[17:22] <Shiral> Or how will people with sore fingers write their
checks?
[17:23] <Debbie-VB> very carefully?
[17:23] * Bynw is gonna reboot brb
[17:23] * Bynw Quit (Quit: Usenet is an opiate, IRC is crack! )
[17:23] <Ghostgames> I'm still recovering 2004's personal financial
data from a file corruption Intuit's Quicken kindly did last year...
(the second time it's done that to our file)...
[17:23] <kirienne> he would write it out for them, they woulf just have
to make a mark
[17:23] <Martine> This is Loris we're talking about. Does he really
want them to write checks, or does he want to punish them some more?
[17:23] <KK> Cash only, for Loris, I suspect.
[17:23] <Shiral> Cash, not Ash?
[17:23] <Martine> Ann, I had that happen once. Upgrade Quicken to at
least 2004 version and start fresh.
[17:23] <TerryOBrien> As long as the thumb is still intact, its so easy
to make the mark in their own blood.
[17:23] <Martine> It won't happen again if you do that!
[17:23] <RainbowDragon> ...or a pound of flesh
[17:24] <Ghostgames> Martine: Both times Quicken has corrupted my data
file in the past 4 years it's been just about 3 months after upgrading
the file to the latest version.
[17:24] <Ghostgames> Turns out that the older your quicken data file
is, the more bloated it gets -- and the more likely data corruption
becomes.
[17:24] <Shiral> Wow, Duncan's Cassan taxes must have been VERY
overdue!
[17:24] <Martine> There was a bug in an earlier version (can't remember
which one) that corrupts the file and conversions don't fix.
[17:24] <Martine> Exactly!
[17:24] <Ghostgames> But do they actually SAY you should start a new
data file every year? <sigh>
[17:24] <Ghostgames> No, they charge $250+ to recover your corrupted
data for you.
[17:25] <Martine> I start a new file and then import the previous
calendar year's data into it.
[17:25] <Ghostgames> Yeah, yeah, I should have paid that money, I've
spent more than $250 worth of time reconstructing everything... but
it''s the principal of the thing.
[17:25] <Shiral> Soo... the dread question... Any writing progress this
week, Katherine?
[17:26] <Ghostgames> Well, now I have a file that starts with 2004,
I'll do your trick of a new file every year...
[17:26] <KK> Not really. Between Papal funerals, royal weddings, and
dog rescues, on top of building.....
[17:26] <Ghostgames> (both times it turned out the corruption was in
the backups, too...)
[17:26] <Shiral> Just another week at Holybrooke
[17:26] <Martine> How is Holybrooke coming along?
[17:26] <Ghostgames> I got Chapter 6 ("Creating a Character") of the
Deryni Adventure Game finished and off to Nancy this week!
[17:27] <Martine> whoo hoo! go ann!
[17:27] <Sedina> whoo hoo!
[17:27] <Debbie-VB> yayyyyy!
[17:27] <kirienne> vera good Ann
[17:27] <Ghostgames> only a bit of editing left to do for Chapter 7
(Playing the Game) and 8 (Advanced Game Rules)...
[17:27] <Shiral> I've been working away at Deryni Magic, Myself
[17:27] <KK> Yep. Oh, and we moved into the front guest bedroom for
the duration. The master suite looks like a bomb went off in there!
[17:27] <KK> Chapter 6! Hurrah!
[17:27] <Martine> LOL! Must look like our basement!
[17:27] * Debbie-VB doesn't play much RPGs anymore,but she is so
looking forwards to the Deryni RPG
[17:28] * Annie has *never* played an RPG before, but would like to
have a go
[17:28] <KK> But we've now got two more rooms--tower and
Cameron's--just about ready for wallpaper!
[17:28] <Sedina> It's fun, Annie. I'm not a big RPG person, but I
really enjoy playing this one
[17:28] * Martine regularly plays the computer type - thanks to
Sedina's corrupting influence <<g>
[17:28] <KK> Progress is being made!
[17:28] <Martine> Whoo hoo! No more little pink hearts in Cameron's
room?
[17:29] <Sedina> Mine?! Who was the one that got me the game in the
first place? *lol*
[17:29] * Martine looks around innocently
[17:29] <Martine> Yeah, but who sucks me in more nights than not?
[17:29] <KK> Nein. All the woodwork and paneling is now white, and the
walls above have been lined, which comes out a pale creamy yellow--very
clean and bright.
[17:29] * Annie worries that total lack of imagination might be a
slight problem....
[17:29] <Martine> Cameron won't even recognize it anymore!
[17:30] <KK> No, he won't. I need to take some pictures tomorrow and
send them to him.
[17:30] <Sedina> That's just because there's little else to do here
right now....this group of House guests isn't very chatty.
[17:30] <KK> We found 1875 wallpaper under two later layers.
[17:30] <Wrengl> hi terry
[17:30] <Martine> Wow! Were you able to preserve any of it? For
posterity if nothing else?
[17:30] <Martine> And not necessarily on the walls ;-)
[17:31] <KK> Yes, we've gotten some goodly samples off, to go in the
house book.
[17:31] <Martine> good!
[17:31] <kirienne> cool kk
[17:31] <Sedina> that's great :)
[17:31] <the_Bee> my only deryni rpg experience consisted mainly of Ann
telling me i couldn't do anything i thought of doing ;o(
[17:31] <KK> There were even scraps of the original 1840 wallpaper
under the gilding strips along the edges of the doors and such.
[17:31] <Martine> wow! neat!
[17:32] <Debbie-VB> You didn't do that bad at Darkover Bee when we
played
[17:32] <Sedina> that's so interesting, Katherine
[17:32] <the_Bee> alll I did at Darkover was watch!
[17:32] <KK> That paper was cream with a metallic gold pattern, and the
strips were bright gilt. It must have been stunning!
[17:32] <Martine> Oh, very cool!
[17:32] <kirienne> it sure must have
[17:32] <KK> And we also found scraps of original paper in Cameron's
room, up under the pelmet.
[17:32] <Debbie-VB> That does sound like beautiful wallpaper
[17:33] <the_Bee> pelmet?
[17:33] <KK> Architectural archaeology! I love it!
[17:33] <the_Bee> personal helmet? pet helmet?
[17:33] <KK> I think you'd call it a cornice in the US.
[17:33] <the_Bee> ok
[17:33] <Martine> And what a house to do it in!
[17:33] <KK> It's a thing that goes above a window and holds the
drapes.
[17:34] <KK> Incidentally, if you recently saw a movie on TV called
Malice Aforethought, it was partially shot here at Holybrooke. And my
peacock wrap was used in it.; also Scott's little Rolls.
[17:35] * Bynw has joined #Deryni_Destinations
[17:35] <DeryniBot> Adam Sinclair welcomes his newest member of the
Hunt ... Bynw
[17:35] <the_Bee> cool!
[17:35] <Martine> Cool! I haven't even heard of that movie.
[17:35] <Shiral> hi bynw
[17:35] <kirienne> ooohhh, that is cool. I didn't see the movie, wish I
had
[17:35] <KK> It's a period piece; got excellent reviews.
[17:35] <the_Bee> I've taped it on PBS "Mystery"
[17:35] <Martine> I'll have to search for it!
[17:35] <Sedina> will have to keep my eye out for it
[17:35] <KK> We haven't seen it yet, either.
[17:36] <Ghostgames> Oh! I'll have to look for it!
[17:36] <the_Bee> check your local PBS kistings
[17:36] <Ghostgames> didn't know it had already aired.
[17:36] <the_Bee> and listings
[17:36] <Martine> Just need something to record it on :-P
[17:36] <the_Bee> part 2 is tonight here in Boston
[17:36] <Martine> Darn VCR finally gave up the ghost.
[17:36] <Debbie-VB> I too will have to watch ouyt for it. If it's on
PBS it will probably show up in my corner of the world
[17:36] <KK> Just very recently in the US. Google it and I think
you'll come up with useful info.
[17:36] <Shiral> Darn... I think that was on last week...
[17:37] <the_Bee> look for repeats
[17:37] <Shiral> yup
[17:37] <Martine>
ddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbb
nnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffff
[17:37] * Bynw is waiting for Revenge of the Sith (not thats a surprise
or anything) ... i read the novel for it last week ... hate to have to
wait now until may 19th for it
[17:37] <Sedina> lol Hi Rowena :)
[17:37] <Martine> Sorry. I think Rowena's coveting my dinner
