Post by: Bynw on February 12, 2012, 07:09:08 PM
18:23 -!- KK [~] has joined #deryni_destinations 18:23 < Alkari> Welcome KK 18:23 < KK> Hi, guys. 18:23 < Evie> Hello 18:23 < derynifanatic64> hi KK 18:24 < derynifanatic64> once upon a time will be on tonight 18:24 < the_Bee> hi KK 18:24 < jemler> hi kk 18:24 < KK> Yes, I saw that. And then Downton Abbey. 18:24 < derynifanatic64> downton abbey is on for 2 hours 18:24 < Alkari> Ah yes - rating period and its Sunday night 18:25 < KK> Not here. They list a repeat of last week's episode, but it won't show here. Just the new episode. 18:25 < derynifanatic64> my guide has tonight's episode for 2 hours--they must be showing 2 episodes together as one 18:25 < the_Bee> We usually get several repeats of Masterpiece here. 18:26 < Evie> Has your mom fully moved into her new place yet? 18:26 < Alkari> or are you all still unpacking?! 18:26 < KK> Still unpacking. 18:27 < KK> But there's progress. 18:27 < Evie> Good. :-) 18:27 < Evie> How's the book coming along, or still too busy with unpacking to get back to it yet? 18:27 < Alkari> And hopefully a few less boxes! 18:27 < KK> The bed has been liberated and made up, the bathroom is enterable, and there's some stuff in the kitchen cabinets. 18:28 < Evie> all of that helps 18:28 < the_Bee> so she can sleep, pee, and eat. 18:28 < Alkari> LOL @ "liberated" bed 18:28 < KK> We're seeing more carpet every day. 18:28 < Alkari> good sign. 18:28 < KK> She can eat downstairs, but she wants to do breakfast in her own place. 18:29 < Evie> that's understandable 18:30 < derynifanatic64> :D 18:30 < jemler> btw, to all those i talked to last week. i lost the superbowl pool. :( 18:31 < the_Bee> How many apartments in her building? 18:31 < derynifanatic64> :( 18:31 < Evie> Luke has evidently sensed your presence, and he has greeted you with a purr,KK. 18:31 < KK> We went to Bed Bath & Beyond today to buy narrow bins for her kitchen drawers, which are the narrowest I've ever seen in a kitchen. Today I asked the weekend concierge who designed the kitchens, because it can't have been a woman, or a cook. 18:31 < jemler> yhe force is with him 18:31 < KK> There are about 80 now. 18:31 < Evie> I have that same problem with my kitchen drawers, KK, and came to the same conclusion about them. :D 18:32 < jemler> women like lots of space. 18:32 < derynifanatic64> careful 18:32 < Evie> My entire kitchen, I think, was designed by a man whose wife did all of the cooking, and he didn't bother to consult with her first. :D 18:32 < the_Bee> I hope they have common areas where people can get together. 18:32 < KK> The inside width is just under 7 inches. Nothing is made to that width, with compartments. 18:32 < jemler> the more space they have, the more junk they buy (like 500 pairs of shoes) 18:33 < Alkari> LOL. That's why it is fun to plan your own kitchen from the start :D 18:33 * Evie smacks jemler with a mackerel so often, she's created a macro for it. *thwack!* 18:33 < jemler> i LIKE mackerel 18:33 < derynifanatic64> 50 pound mackerel 18:33 -!- Sarah is now known as Sarah_away 18:33 < Alkari> My current kitchen was built in 1959 and has lots of little cupboards. 18:34 < Evie> if you're going by shoe count, jemler, my DH is going to be awfully surprised to discover that I'm a man. Also if one judges by how much I pack for a trip. He packs 3 times more than I do! ;D 18:34 < jemler> no i don't like mackerel enough to pay 50 pounds for it 18:34 < Alkari> I couldn't afford to rip the whole thing out when I first moved in, so all I did was paint them and change the knobs 18:34 < derynifanatic64> weighing 50 pounds 18:34 < KK> That's a credible fix. 18:35 < Alkari> Yes - but it is going to be SO nice to get proper ones and wider drawers :D 18:35 < jemler> when my sister moved in to her house, she found the old owners had painted the oak cabinets in the kitchen white. 18:35 < Evie> But a kitchen with only 6 feet of counterspace on one side, two of which are covered by a microwave, and only a foot of counterspace on either side of the stove, you surely have to admit is a bit TOO small even for a male cook? 18:35 < KK> Are you redoing your kitchen? 18:36 < the_Bee> When they build apartments with shelves to the ceiling, I think they sould include a folding stapladder. 18:36 < Alkari> Yes KK - I have just started on the long process - kitchen, bathroom and separate toilet :D 18:36 < Alkari> I will just have bulkeads between the top of the cupboards and thre celiing Bee. 18:36 < Evie> I assume you mean a toilet separate from the bathing area, and not that you're going to have an outhouse built. :D 18:36 < KK> I sympathize. I've now done4 kitchens in the past 6 years. 18:37 < Alkari> Difficult to build an outside toilet if you are five floors up in an apartment :p 18:37 < KK> True. 18:37 < jemler> i'm glad you said that evie. now they can throw fish at ypu! 18:37 < Alkari> Each kitchen is a "learning experience" they say!! 18:37 < jemler> you, sorry 18:37 < derynifanatic64> never 18:37 < Evie> You could hang a bucket from a hook on the wall below the windowsill, but that's rather extreme. :D 18:38 < jemler> inside or outside the house? 18:38 < Alkari> The people down beloe wouldn't understand my fascination with medieval sanitation methods and slop bucktes ..:( 18:38 < Evie> Outside, jemler. Otherwise it would be an indoor toilet. 18:38 < jemler> put a sign over it. Number 1 only! :) 18:38 < derynifanatic64> :D 18:39 < Alkari> :p 18:39 < Evie> that's too bad, Alkari. There go the plans for sending you a close stool for Christmas with instructions to empty the pot out the window after shouting "Gardez l'eau!" 18:39 < Alkari> Well, if I was on the other side of the building, there ARE a few neighbours I wouldn't mind doing that to ... .:D 18:39 < Evie> LOL 18:40 < Alkari> I culd even make a sort of chute so the stuff was aimed properly ...;) 18:40 * Evie fantasizes briefly about getting DH to build a closestool that disassembles for shipping, and Alkari's reaction to receiving said gift. :D 18:41 < Alkari> There's room to instal it at Mum's place. Up in the attic where we used to keep the skeleton. 18:41 < the_Bee> I thought skeletons belonged in closets. 18:41 < Evie> If it wouldn't be prohibitively expensive, I could probably talk DH into doing that. He's got a quirky enough sense of humor, not to mention the skills. 18:42 < Alkari> well, thgis was a sort of little dormer window in the attic - the skeleton looked really good when it was backlit 18:42 < Alkari> "interesting" for people coming up the driveway :D 18:42 < Evie> Do I even want to ask why you had a skeleton in the attic?! 18:43 < Alkari> :D 18:43 < the_Bee> Whose skeleton was it? 18:43 < Evie> "Behave, kids, because I brought you into this world and I can take you out. Ask Big Brother upstairs." 18:43 < Alkari> It was "war booty" from WW2 and has a story 18:43 < Alkari> It was "liberated" from a Japanese medical unit at the end of the war 18:45 < Evie> fklllllll 18:45 < Evie> Sorry. Cat happened. :D 18:45 < Alkari> Hi Luke :D 18:45 * jemler hums the Meow Mix theme 18:45 < the_Bee> hello Luke 18:46 < Evie> I think that's "cat" for "You weren't paying enough attention to me." 18:46 < Alkari> Have you done any more writing, KK? You haven't left poor Alaric dealing with de Nore and co for weeks, have you?! 18:47 < derynifanatic64> luke is just being luke 18:47 < KK> Not yet; still unpacking. But I hope to get back to the writing this week. 18:48 < Evie> I dreamed there was a Deryni board game, and there was some sort of "shiral crystal" in the center of it that would tell you your next move. Or something of that sort. The details are foggy now. 18:48 < Alkari> the crystal is foggy? 18:49 < Evie> LOL! No, my memory of the dream is. 18:49 < Evie> I just remember that I was playing the Arilan piece because someone else had got to Duncan first. :-( 18:49 < Alkari> How did they manage that?!! 18:49 < derynifanatic64> bad someone 18:49 < the_Bee> The crystal would be foggy if I were looking into it. 18:49 < Alkari> you getting slow in your old age? :p 18:49 * jemler ducks 18:50 < Evie> and when it was my turn, I had to do something that the golden crystal ball in the middle told me to do, but when I woke up I couldn't remember exactly how that part worked. 18:50 < Evie> it made more sense in my dream. 18:50 < derynifanatic64> of course 18:50 < Evie> :-P at Alkari. 18:52 < Evie> I'll have you know I'm only twenty-nine and counting. Counting for twenty years now, to be exact. ;-) 18:52 < derynifanatic64> :) 18:52 < jemler> counting forward or backward? 18:52 < Alkari> well, that means you are nearer Denis in age anyway :D 18:52 < Evie> And I have the body of a seventeen year old. Please disregard that screaming coming from the basement. 18:53 < jemler> why? does he want it back? 18:54 < Evie> Well, as Alkari's fond of pointing out. "Evie" is short for "Evil." Muahaha. 18:54 < the_Bee> You know, I think it might be possible to make a game like that. Use a "shiral" crystal like a magic 8-ball to determine your moves. 18:54 < derynifanatic64> ;) 18:54 < Alkari> No, it's just Evil with a typo :) 18:55 < Evie> That's a thought. Or make it like the dome in the "Trouble" board game that you push down on to get it to roll the dice 18:55 < Evie> which could be black and white like Ward Cubes. :D 18:55 < the_Bee> The game could be some kind of quest or journey. 18:55 < KK> Keep working on that. It could be an interesting game. 18:56 < Evie> actually, if I were going to play a Deryni game, it would be the Deryni Adventures RPG or some variation on that. 18:56 < Alkari> on the way, they could find various 'lost' Deryni texts or artifacts 18:56 < Evie> something more storytelling-inspired and less rules-bound than a board game 18:56 < KK> Oh, I may not be here next week. I realized last night that the con I thought was in mid-March is actually next weekend: SheVaCon, in Roanoke. And since I'm one of the author guests, I sorta hafta go. ;-) 18:57 < Evie> LOL! Yes, I'm sure they'd appreciate that 18:57 < the_Bee> sorta, yes. 18:57 < derynifanatic64> of course 18:57 < Alkari> LOL - yes, probably a good idea 18:57 < Evie> and also that they're glad you remembered the right weekend on time! 18:57 < the_Bee> What's the name stand for? 18:57 < the_Bee> Shenandoah Valley? 18:57 < Alkari> I won't be here either - have a long weekend away at dressage, and then Stuff on Monday, when I would much ratyher sleep in 18:58 < the_Bee> I's Mondy for you now, isn't it? 18:58 < Alkari> yes Bee 18:58 < Alkari> Just on noon 18:58 < KK> Ack! They're showing Downton at 8 P after all. 18:58 < the_Bee> 1 minute to Once upon a time. 18:59 < jemler> KK, i hate to say this, but it's 8 o'clock. 18:59 < Evie> KK, Julianne normally runs the Deryni Archives fanfic by you first before printing an edition, doesn't she? Has she run that by you yet this year? I had a submission, but haven't heard anything about a new issue coming out since sending that in. 18:59 < derynifanatic64> last week's repeat 18:59 < jemler> no it's not 18:59 < KK> No new one yet. Gotta go! 18:59 < jemler> mr golds house gets robbed 18:59 < the_Bee> bye KK 18:59 < jemler> nite KK 18:59 < derynifanatic64> bye 18:59 < Evie> good night 18:59 * KK steps onto her Portal, waves goodnight, and disappears in a shower of green sparkles. 19:00 < KK> Nighters! 19:00 < jemler> i'm gonna go too. early day tomorrow 19:00 -!- KK [~] has quit [Quit: ]
