computer finally sorted--except that the task bar across the bottom is
now invisible when I'm working in Word.
[18:20] <Harvey> I have that problem at work and have to navigate with
Alt/Tab between programs.
[18:20] <KK> It doesn't just hide if the mouse isn't over it; the Word
window takes up the whooooole screen.
[18:21] <Harvey> I haven't been able to solve it.
[18:21] <Mistyck> you can adjust the window though
[18:21] <KK> It wasn't that way before, so it has to be something that
Dr. Dieter did. Must call him tomorrow.
[18:21] <Harvey> But, I haven't really tried more than a minute either.
[18:21] <KK> How do you adjust the Word window? There's no corner or
edge to drag.
[18:22] <Mistyck> first hit the square to minimize it a bit
[18:22] <KK> For Word, it seems to be either there or not. Nothing in
between.
[18:22] <Mistyck> hmmn, that IS weird
[18:23] <Mistyck> do you get a blue bar on the very top with the x, -
and square?
[18:23] <KK> And right now, there's no task bar visible--so I can't see
the clock.
[18:23] <Shiral> Dr. Dieter sounds like a good title for a Diet Doctor
[18:23] <Mistyck> or is it a black bar?
[18:23] <Martine> I remember that happening when I used to do tech
support, if the "restored" window size had gotten moved off screen
somehow.

[18:23] <Martine> Unfortunately, can't remember how to fix it - or if
the fix would even work in Windows XP!

the upper right corner: _, the square, and X.

[18:27] <KK> Ick, indeed.
[18:27] <Martine> If you hit double-square, what happens? Is that when
it goes full screen?
[18:27] <Mistyck> there has to be a way to adjust it though

[18:28] <Martine> When it fills the screen, can you see the title bar
or menu bar?
[18:28] <KK> I see the tool bar across the top, but no task bar below.
[18:29] <KK> Menu bar, also.
[18:29] <Martine> If you hit Alt-Spacebar simultaneously, you'll get a
menu that says Restore/Move/Size/Minimize/etc.
[18:30] <KK> Stand by. I'll try that.
[18:30] <Martine> Select "Move", and then use your arrow keys to move
the window down
[18:30] <Martine> Until you can see something behind it.
[18:31] <Samuel> KK: click start/control pannel/taskbar and start
menue.
[18:31] <Samuel> make sure the Auto-hide the taskbar is NOT checked.
[18:31] <Martine> Sam, it only happens in Word. The Word window is
sized larger than the display, so it's covering the task bar.
[18:32] <Samuel> ah ok.....
[18:32] <Mistyck> I hope that shortcut works for her Martine
[18:34] <Martine> It sometimes takes a few tries to figure out how to
move or size windows using only the arrow keys (if they're dragged off
screen or too large to grab the edges), but it works when you get the
hang of it.
[18:34] <Martine> I use it all the time when I play around with my
display resolution.
